The valve cover is off. It was not necessary to raise the engine. The problem was the FPR. Even though unbolted, it was not out of the way quite enough. I unbolted the fuel rail and lifted it up and that allowed me to move the FPR out of the way. Actually the fuel line was in the way. These are all new injectors so it will go back together easy.
The trick is to lift the valve cover straight out so there is always even space front to back, top to bottom. You can't get one end up higher than the other. That is the problem Ripped Camel was having, yet nobody pointed it out.
Remember he said that he got the passenger side out by raising the engine without removing the mount through bolt. That indicates that the motor was sagging towards the passenger side due to a bad motor mount.
If the motor was leaning that way, he should have had MORE room to get the driver's side out. He didn't even unplug the injectors, he just broke all the plugs for them. If he would have moved all the stuff off the valve cover and unplugged everything, I'll bet he had plenty of room. He just NEVER lifted the valve cover straight up. Remember him saying that he had the front so high it was clearing the timing chain? YOU CAN'T DO THAT. It has be be lifted very gently, straight out. I don't think "gently" is a word in his vocabulary.
Anyway, enough about that. I don't see any obvious problems except that the secondary timing chain seems to have a lot of play. I don't know what is normal. In a little while I will go back out and connect everything so I can start it. I'll try to get a video showing the chain slop and what it sounds like running with the valve cover off.
