Here's whats up, i work part time at a transmission repair shop. The guy who runs it is way cool he's into caddy's and he's got an upper ninety's id say like 96-98 cadillac i dont know much about it other than its got the northstar and i assume it to be stock. Its a two door so i think coupe deville maybe eldo. But he's swears that thing is faster then my ls an i'm thinking no way u got to be kidding me. We are gona run em here soon. How much should i throw down? or should I sit this one out?

I dont see why it matters. If his boat happens to be faster than your LS would that change the way you think of your car?

If so you should have bought a car that was meant to be fast.

N offense:)

If it is the northstar engine I would assume it is an Eldorado.

That would mean somewhere around 300hp and 0-60 in 7.4

I'm not sure what your car is but according to the book a 2000 LS v8 is 252hp and 0-60 in 7.5.

So, put your foot in it and hope that he can't drive for sh!t. Or, do some of the standard mods to tilt it in your favor. The Eldorado is 3876lbs where the LS is 3692lbs. Driver not included :)

A 96-98 2 door Caddy is gonna be an Eldorado. 4.6 32 valve Northstar and FWD. No idea who'd win.

If you got a V8, I'd put my money on you.

its an Eldo, ive beaten my buddies 97 but not by much, he gets me every time out of the hole, but i pull him on the high side, however it is not an ETC (similar to the STS version of the seville) standard northstar 270hp, ETC 295hp

Id say the bottom end is where it's gonna be won or lost in that one. Whoever gets off the line best is gonna probably take it. My old STS would jump ahead of just about any car off the line because of the balls that motor had on the bottom end. The 3.9 really ain't got jack off the line unless you get the launch just right. The Northstar also likes to rev like the 3.9, but it's mated to a 4 speed trans, whereas you have a 5 speed trans, so you have the extra gear advantage if you can make the trans shift at the right spots.
The only real disadvantage you have here is that you have less power. If you can successfully, and quickly, get the power to the ground, then you should be able to take him, but it'll be close.

nothing would change what i think of my car. but we've been going back an forth for some time an i talk alot a :q:q:q:q, just wanted to know if i could back it up and teach him some lincoln respect

I always thought these kind of threads were ridiculous....

just race him and come back and tell us who won... or don't tell us, I don't care

it doesn't matter who wins...the act of racing is the hook, that's the enjoyment, not the conclusion

I'd race him once you got some decent mods like the Intake...makes a world of difference cause it matters if you're running bone stock vs his bone stock.....you should try figuring that out...cause for all you know he's got mods up the @ss in his caddy....
