Ok, I used the search option & didn't find specifics on which is the best alternator for my 93 Mark VIII. My voltage regulator is about to kick the bucket! My interior/exterior/dash lights are flickering & I'm going to ruin electronics if I don't switch the alternator soon.
I noticed in another recent thread that the 1996 Mustang Cobra Alternator is a good replacement. Is that the case or should I just buy a new 93 Mark VIII alt?

I'm about to spend the cash on this necessary part so I might as well go with the best option! Which is the best way to go?

The cobra alt looks alot better as it has larger cooling ports, and a gold colored pulley, it worked fine in mine until the regulator went bad...not sure what caused it to go bad...just make sure you get a lifetime warranty with whichever decision you go with

Alex, Not one Gen 1! I went to both U Pull Its off Southern. Did find a '97 with a brand new Arnott air compressor. I paid $56.....I think I did good.

But Gen2 worky just fine in Gen1
and if i'm not mistaken, 96+ Continental Alt will worky too

Gen 1 no worky in Gen 2.

There. Hope you understand now. :p

Guys, this is good to know! Now I know I can get a newer alternator! Hmmm, now to find a good used one!

A 96/97/98 alternator will work just fine in your vehicle. What you may have to do is to undo the harness, and pull the wires over just a bit. This is due to the position of the later model's plug location. It is more to the passenger side than the 93/94/95.

I'm becoming a lazy b!tch, I love the plug n' play stuff but I can deal with a couple wires!

I put a 2nd gen alt. on my '93 and you have to plug the harness into it before you snug the alt down. Because it rams the plug right into the front of the intake, therfore preventing you from snapping it in once it's installed.

Excessive Amperage.

Google it. Turn off your computer's speakers as the pinhead who owns the business thinks he's got to run a DJ stand on the main site. Send your alternator in. Wait. Receive alternator. Install alternator. Be happy.

Checked out Excessive Amperage. The place I work at has high speed Internet, the computer is less than 3 months old, yet that page actually froze my Internet Explorer & my fire fox. Good stuff though, however some how I think they may be over my budget right now.
