Where to purchase new Battery.

I need a new battery but seeing on how I have been reading so much on the INTERNET about these garbage motor-craft ones I think I wanna go with something aftermarket and more reliable.

I have went to all auto parts stores in my area and no one can find one in the systems they use. I have searched the stores online and did a google but all I found were complaints about the factory battery.


Someone suggested Optima and I am thinking about it but does anyone else have suggestions on a brand and a store that I could find one or even order from online?
 
The Lincoln LS requires a vented battery, being in the trunk which is part of the cabin being vented protects agents venting gasses that can explode and are not the best to breath. Optima battery can vent under the right conditions. OEM batteries are known to last 5+ years, any battery can develop dead cells before there expected life cycle.

Thanks, but what I have read is that this is not a good example of one of those batteries that last 5+ years.

I will admit that I am only going by what I have read and well the few inconveniences that played out since I owned the vehicle ( this is the third OEM in less than 5+ years ). The battery is under the 36 month warranty but seeing so much about problems here and on the internet in general just makes me not even care for it.
 
I just replaced mine, not much of a choice so i went with the Motorcraft. I did have a choice of 650 or 750 CCA, easy choice there for same price :) My old one was a 650 CCA, so got a little more. I think the battery is a group 66 which makes it odd in size/position. That seems to be the problem beside the venting, unless you modify the hold down and stuff. I did not want to be bothered
 
I have come to realize this. I have been spending my one day off calling everyone in the area and I cant get crap so I just bit the bullet and decided to go back and return the Motorcraft to the dealership.


It fired right up.


Off topic: I have purchased a set of 9006 bulbs that have been shipped with the wrong watts a few months ago. I did not realize this at all since I was excited and just tossed them in and I think they blew a relay cause shortly after one went on me. I have read about using heavy duty plug and play harnesses. Does this only protect the harness from melting or would it stop relays from blowing out also.
 
Where in NJ are you. If you are in northern NJ you can try buywise in union on springfiled ave. They may only have a Ford battery. I just replaced my original Battery for my 2002 with 110000mi.

Man, good luck with that, I needed a new battery and could not find one ANYWHERE so I had to buy a Motorcraft. So far, its been great.
 
I put in an Optima at about 107-108 K into my '02 Sport. The only way I can see for an Optima to vent is if it fell apart somehow. I hooked up the vent connection behind the bumper to the vent on my methanol fuel cell. Works just fine!!

It will vent if you have an electrical short on a circuit not protected by a small fuse. If so, it will vent through the small felt-looking pad on the top of the battery.

For example. You get in an unexpected wreck. The impact causes the big cable that runs from the battery to the front of the car to short to the frame. The battery vents hydrogen into the trunk and then interior of the car. A spark from the short that caused the venting in the first place causes an explosion.


It's a long shot, but it's one of the reasons that Ford designed in an externally vented battery.

Over charging will cause venting also.
 
I'm also looking at getting a new battery. Could someone please explain what the battery vent looks like and exactly where it's located(pictures would be nice). I don't think mine has one.
 
as far as i know your best bet is to go to a ford/lincoln dealer and getting a new battery from there. i looked everywhere and came up empty
 
Well guys thanks. Like I said I had it swapped out at the dealer free of charge but I doubt it will last long so can someone please tell me the specifics on the Optima battery so I know which one to pick out?

Also, anyone have anything on my off topic question about the headlight harness?

You can try and use a heavy duty harness and splice in a fuse. That might work to save the relay if the heavy duty harness alone doesn't help.
 
Optima battery use

I'll stick by what I said. My optima came with filler blocks so it's held in place very securely. In order to have the battery vent enough to cause a hazardous condition, you'd have to have a much greater problem than a touch of H2 in the trunk. Don't worry about the battery when you're wrapped around a telephone pole! ;)

Optima all the way!! Forget what these yahoos tell you about venting! Optimas have been used inside of vehicle's for years now without a problem! Our oldest (of 15) optimas is 12 years going on 13 now! The longest we have ever had any battery in one of our work trucks before the optimas was 2 years!

We now install optimas in EVERYTHING!

I have a 2001 LS, and it has the original Motorcraft battery in it, with no problems to date !!!
 
I looked on the Optima website and even they don't have one listed for the LS.

So where did everyone get one and what one do I need?


Obviously its not for the LS specifically?
 
I replaced my original a few months ago. I walked into my local O'Reilly's and they had one there. I guess I just got lucky.
