Where does everyone shift their mark viii???????? I have an LMS chip in it and it revs me out to like 6250rpms.....best to just leave it in drive (with OD off) or rev it a little higher and shift??
 
nah, leave it in drive....let the PCM work for you.

your shifts will be more consistant and quicker if you let a properly adjusted PCM shift for you.

There is little if any gain to be had shifting later than that.
currently I've been messing with a "later programmed shift point" that is happening about 250 RPM's later than yours..
The shift is being completed by 6450.
Datalogs show no performance increase by shifting this late and I will be moving my shift point back about 1-200RPM's.

yea....when i got the car i thought it kinda had that cop car/ taxi cab feel......but its ok, i cleaned it up....the wood in the 94 helps set it off......and no pine tree air freshener
 
When winding it out, I shift at 6800. I have a 5-speed though, so I don't need to worry about a torque converter ballooning.
 
The motor falls on its face after exactly 6250. There's no need to shift any higher than that.
 
There is no gain on a mild Mark motor shifting above 6500 max. Power falls off before that. I leave the car in drive and it shifts about 6200.

My 98 likes to be shifted at 6900 I've lost time shift sooner. All the marks have the same cams could the difference be the springs. Maybe the gen 1 are getting too much valve float at the higher RPM's. That could hurt performance. But I don't know, just know what my time slips say about my car.
 
Gen 1 and gen 2 may have different shift point requirements too, due to the different intake designs.

I thought the gen2s have better cams, the same as the 96-98 cobras got?

Springs make a bit of a difference but not as much as a different cam profile.
 
nah they all have the same cam profiles as the cobra.
one of the cams is retarded 3 degrees and the cobra cam is straight up.

better/newer valve springs definately could be a factor.

Late 95(I beleive) and up used beehive type springs.
 
My 94 would float the valves at 6700ish.... I tired to blow up that motor but it just wouldn't happen.... the block from that car is in a 700ish HP Mustang now.
 
My 95 has the charcoal box in the rear for the obdII set up,(its not an obdII car) maybe it was late enough in production that I have the beehives too?:D I'll have to check the 'born on date':rolleyes:
 
I shift about 6500 at leas that is what I think my sift light is set at

sorry for double post I think my computer is dieing I does think on its own now
 
slowmark I total think thats it. The power loss at the top end is less than the advantage I get starting the next gear higher in the RPM's. And by no means can I feel the car nose over or anything like that. She pulls hard all the way with the tune changed(timing).
 
With the gen 2 intake manifold and beehive valve springs, shift at 7000. It definately pulls hard all the way to redline especially with the gears. My 95 LSC I shifted at 6600rpm. And yes I know it's not good for the torque converter but I haven't had any issues with the 98 tranny after 3 years of abuse. Knock on wood...
