I know they're different part numbers, but would a LF wheel speed sensor work on the right front?

I recently replaced my left front Wheel hub which includes the wheel speed sensor.

The left and right parts are the same. There is no different part number, at least on aftermarket parts. I bought Raybestos from JC WHitney and so far all is good.

If the hub is not rusted, this is a piece of cake job just slightly harder than replacing the front brakes.

If the hub is rusted, then I have read it is a beach to remove. Mine was not rusted and just fell out when I removed the bolts.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

are you taking about the ABS sensors?

if so, there is a front and a rear partnumber - no left or right. they are very simple, to swap - 10min job. not sure why people are talking about hubs? maybe I'm missing something.

right - on my Gen1 - you just pop them out and swap them - it is a 10min job. to say they are 'built-in' to teh hub kinda implies that they are not seperate and replacable parts...

is it different on a Gen2?

From what I could find, you can only replace the abs lines and not the sensor.. I find it easier because if the vehicle has higher mileage, they will need to be replaced soon anyways (if they haven't been done already)..

there is a ring (metal ring with notches) that is mounted on the hub, the sensor is screwed into the spindle and is easily replaced. The ring is part of the hub, the sensor can be bought seperately.

I have replaced all four sensors on my LS - since you can't tell which one went bad unless you take it to the dealer and use their diag tool. So the Diag test costs the same as 3 sensors...

FYI - You can buy the bearings now - and press them in - versus having to buy an entire hub assembly.

but back to the topic - you can replace the sensors (like $50 each) and there is no left or right (just front or back)

Or replace the whole unit with a new sensor already in it for around 125.. ;)

Which, like I said, you should do if it has +60k miles.. Because they are going to wear out soon after and you would need to replace the whole unit anyways.. :blah:

Had replaced the LF wheel sensor (which is actually a short wire with two connectors) problems was still there. Replaced RF with old LF, viola! All fixed. A bunch of black soot like stuff, somewhat magnitized on replaced sensor. Any thoughts where this came from?

good to know. my stealer quoted me 350 and change to change the ABS sensor and bearing. so it can be done cheaper?

if you do not need to replace the hub/bearings - then yes - you can just swap the sensor.

If you don't know which side it the issue - then buy one, swap it - if that doesn't fix it, then swap that one into the other side. so you only need one front and one rear to chase down a ABS sensor issue (unless you have two bad - unlikely)

I believe rockauto also has that piece very reasonable.. or check with max.. but yes, it would save you a crappy ton of money if you did it yourself..
