Ok guys, I need some opinions. What would you do if you were in my shoes?

PLEASE NOTE, THIS IS ASIDE FROM THE MONEY FOR THE PAINT. CAR IS GETTING PAINTED VERY SOON. THIS IS AFTER PAINT.

Let's say you have a good set of chrome 17x9 Cobra R's. They are chipping here & there but they are overall in good condition. (SEE BELOW PICTURES)

You also have a near perfect set of 2001 chrome 17x8 Cobra wheels (This is the set installed on my car) NOTE: They are Mustang lug pattern & mounted on 1" spacers. PERFECT FIT, no issues... but they're on spacers.

Would you:

A: Keep both sets, sand blast & powder coat the Cobra R's ($280 locally)

B: Sell the current 2001 Cobras, sand blast & powder coat the Cobra R's

C: Sell both sets of wheels, order a new set of black Saleen wheels ($860 shipped + tire cost)

D: Sell both sets of wheels, order a new set of charcoal Bullitt wheels ($860 shipped + tire cost)

Use the $860 toward hubswapping and leave the 2001 cobras on it..save the rest for paint. Those 01 cobras look awsome, nobody runs those wheels on marks and they look perfrct on it IMO. Once hubswapped you could then get some wider tires for the rear without worrying about fender rubbing since they won't be as far out toward the fender lip.

Agreed! +1

but it would also look amazing with a set of Black Saleen's!!!

I voted sell em and get the Charcoal Bullits cause they would look killer on your car.

My '96 had 17" Chrome Bullits I got off Ebay for $500 for the set. Wish they were still available :(

Although it is the BEST option. This is not an option for me. See, other than my prairie tan, these Mark VIII's come & go for me. I've owned 7 so far. It's not worth the time & hassle for me to invest on doing this.

The money for paint is already separated. The car will get painted in 3 - 4 weeks or so. Hub swapping is not an alternative. Especially since I always install the OEM 10 spoke wheels when I go to sell these cars. They sell better that way down here. I know eventually I will have to buy a 4dr car for the wife & my black 97 will be the one to go.

If you're already planning it's demise, why bother doing anything to it? Just drive it like it is, and sell it when you're gonna sell it. No use wasting money on something you're just gonna get rid of. If it's not worth the "time and hassle" to invest in hub-swapping (for less money, since you already own the wheels), why bother? If you keep the Mark VIII hubs, like you've kept the wheels, you can just put them back on with the 10-spokes.

A little off-topic, but I don't understand you guys buying and selling the same type of car over and over....if you like them enough to want to buy another one, why sell the one you have in the first place?

I bought my 98 LSC back in 2004. I know EVERYTHING that's been done to that car since then (9 years of maintenance/upgrades), and 99% of it was done by me. The only reason I bought my 97 (gone now) was because it was so cheap, and it gave me a decent daily driver. I know I have a VERY solid car, and never want to get rid of it. It has to be in a very high percentile for well-maintained Mark VIII's, and I worked VERY hard to get it there and keep it there all these years. I don't have to worry about anything that a previous owner has done to it, or about getting my money out of it when I sell it (that will never happen anyway). Why sell a car that you know, only to buy someone else's headache, over and over again. Nearly every time you buy one, there's a bunch of crap that needs to be fixed or replaced. Front end suspension, air bags, etc...may as well only do that crap once, and know you have a decent car...otherwise you're just throwing money away every time.

I think I can answer your question for the both of us. Alex has his keeper prairie tan. I have my 93 that my Son drives and I will never get rid of my 98 LSC or my Collectors. When you see a great deal on one (like Alex's black one), you can't pass it up. Part of the fun is the hunt and playing with it for a while. Alex will paint it, enjoy it, and fix what needs to be fixed. Then on to the next one. It is the same thing for me. I take the profit and spend it keeping my other 3 Marks maintained. I am always on CL looking for another deal. It's a sickness, but a good sickness:) BTW Alex, leave the wheels alone!! They look perfect the way they are!! Don't waste the $$ on different wheels. Put it in the bank for the next 4 door ride.

Ok, if you read correctly. I stated I will NOT be doing any hub swapping! Specifically for that reason. I prefer to leave the OEM hubs so that I can install the oem 10 spokes once I decide to sell it.

As for selling it for a 4dr? Guys, I plan on keeping the car for a while. More or less for about another year but I can't get more than $1,600 for is as is because the paint is horrible. I need to paint it. I get great deals on paint labor. I can get the car painted, sanded & buffed for $1,300 with a REALLY GOOD quality paint & once painted I know I can get close to 4k.

This car has 64,700 miles on it. It has less miles than my prairie tan. The reason why I'd keep the prairie is purely psychological. The fact that it has original paint attracts me to it.

As for the buying & selling? I've bought & sold until I find the one(s) that suite my needs. It was hard to sell my '93 but I knew I needed to invest over $2,500 to make it top notch & it had 109,000 miles on it so I decided it was better to keep this black '97. If I come across a better Mark then the prairie tan will go as well. It's simply progressing within the Mark VIII's.

ALL THE PARTS THAT I INSTALL are removable. Guages, guage pods, wheels even the LSC/CE trim on my prairie tan.

Whatever I install on the black one to enjoy for the next year or so will come off when it's time to sell.

If you keep the OEM hubs, you can just swap them back onto it WITH the 10-spokes.

Even with the cost of redrilling the rotors, you'd be into it for less than buying new wheels AND tires. Then, like I said, once you sell it, just swap the hubs and 10-spokes back on.

If you keep the stock brakes, a hub swap is a easy two hour reversal. Swap front hubs, knock out the rear studs and install the original studs back into the hubs. Easy peasy.

man this is one confusing thread its giving me a headache.....what I would do is sell the 01's and with that money powder coat the R's since I know for a fact that you wont hub swap whats the use on keeping those 01 cobras.

Hubswap and run the '01 wheels... they look great on that car.

My friend Marvin knows me well. I will NOT hub swap. I will enjoy my black '97 for a good 8 months - 1 year or so but I am not keeping it long enough to want to do any hub swapping.

Well, I have amazing news for me! I saw my mother last night & she gave me amazing news. Mom's are wonderful. I loaned her $1k a couple months ago & she's returning the cash with VERY NICE interest. I never charged her interest but she told me she wanted to give me a gift. She knows my stepdad is responsible for some of the damage to the paint on my black car (long story, involves beer & a sander) so she may end up paying for 1/2 of paint job.

Yay!! Now you can hub-swap!!!

Ok guys, the verdict is in! I will indeed be selling both of my Cobra wheel sets! I will be purchasing a bullit style wheel.

Here's my Craigslist ad on the chrome 17x9 Cobra R's. This is the set that I'm selling right now. To all LVC members, I don't beat around the bush with you guys. Forget you saw my asking price. I want $330 FIRM for this set. I will take no less. No partial payments but I do take deposits if you want me to hold them for you. I will not ship until you have paid in full. When I had them shipped it cost me $145.00 to ship them in 2 boxes. 2/box with the old tires that were on them. I'm assuming the charges will be similar depending to where you live.

Let me make this VERY clear. There is corrosion on these wheels. They are NOT in perfect condition but they are Cobra R wheels with our 5x108 lug pattern. I paid $420 + shipping for them in the very same exact condition they are today back when I purchased them. Whomever purchases these wheels can enjoy them for years to come. I've simply grown tired of this type of wheel. I'd love to re-chrome them but it's way to expensive down here in South Florida.
