I thought I had a bad clock spring but I found out this was bad instead. The band that looks like a IDE cable for a PC pulled out of the grey clip.

Whats it called and whats it go for?

Ok, so it is part of the clock spring?

I know the clock spring is a common issue but is this specific problem or something else with the clock spring?

yes - it's the steering wheel mounted airbag deployment wiring. it is integrated into the clockspring - and uses the clockspring (the ribbon cable) to connect from the airbag through the steering column to the SRS system. It allows the connection to pass through a turning steering wheel.

So I habe no way around this fix but to replace the entire clock spring?

Not bad I guess. Last time it was covered under warranty but Team Ford has it for a good price. My local dealership wants way more and then some in labor!

This is a easy fix now that Sully posted the how to right?
