What was the Best Mark VIII

I am looking to buy a different Mark VIII, I have a 96 now and may use it for a project car. I am leaning towards the 98's.Is there huge difference between the years besides the body changes, or is it just a personal thing if you prefer the gen 1s or the gen 2s.
 
The 98's have a better transmission which is always great with this car. I like the gen 2 body styles I wish I would have bought one. When i get the money I wanna buy a 98 black on black LSC. Plus they have HID's which are awesome.
 
HID's, better trans (98), rear neon rocks (if it works), i feel the gen2 seats swallow you, and of course the gen 2 CRUSE LIGHT!!!!!!
 
Hehe I lost 2nd gear doing 1-2 shifts then put an 04 trans in my car ripped the trans apart did all this work and now I only have 2nd.... And yet for some stupid reason I am doing a hub swap.

Anyhow back to topic if I had 6k laying around the mark viii I would desire is definately a 98 LSC.... and if I were really lucky I would get a CE... The holy grail of the mark series IMHO

I agree. 6K? is that what they are going for around there? I paid 4500 for my 93 with 66,000 miles.
 
Give or take a thousand... CEs are a bit more pricey but good deals can be had if you search hard enough...
 
After driving a Gen I for so long, then getting in a Gen II you may notice the car is a bit slower, enough for me to notice for sure.

I by far prefer a Gen I, however the Gen II is many ways is what all the Marks SHOUDL have been - more loaded, more gadgets, etc. And not to mention that a Gen I looks like a 90s car, yet the Gen II certainly has a "timeless" look. You could easily buff and polish a Gen II and tell someone is a 2006 or something, you cant do that with a Gen I :( Well, in my opinion :)
 
I dunno about that avi8tor... Most people seem surprised when I tell them that my car is a 93 they seem to think its like a 2000 something... Even the guys at the Chrysler Dealership that I worked at thought it was like a 99...

well I just aquired a 93 Mark VIII and your right. Gen 1 definitly is faster then my 97. true about the looks too.
 
I have been finding the 98s from 5k and up depending on the mileage, Something with 60k on it is around 6k the lsc are a little more. I am looking for a 98 red lsc at this time with good mileage. I came across a nice silver one but silver is not my favroit color.
 
For me either a 98 LSC or a 96 LSC are the ultimate Mark VIII's.
 
im still confused about the power differences... what makes a 93 so much faster? ud think that the gearing on the LSCs would be the deciding factor, but apparantly that doesnt seem to be true. FOr the power difference to be felt by the driver that much i'd think it would have to be a pretty substantial difference... why would ford back off as the years went on?? Unfortunately ive never had a chance to drive a gen1 so i havent felt this myself but it seems to be the consensus.
 
Ok, 93 was the first and the ECU has the "best" stock tune form what I have heard. Keep in mind, these are Lincolns and it was probably felt that the cars needed to be less aggressive - or have a bit better economy. Who knows for sure, but 94,95 & 96 were tuned differently from 93.

Now in 98 you get a new cat, the intake is different and of all the compatible intakes out there - this will end up in the trash first. So its not so much the tunes, etc, its the intake that seems to "hinder" the Gen IIs.

Now for the 96, you get ODB II so you can playing with the tuning a bit more than 95 and earlier. But 96 is an odd year, almost ALL of the harnesses and wiring are unique to 96 only - like the trans harness for example.

As for the LSC, ya, a bit more power but you can do anything to a base car to get it better. But the LSC have no chrome strips and true duel exhaust, etc. If I knew more about them when I bought one, I would have held out for an LSC simply for looks - not power.
 
well that answeres my question hahaha- thanks! Whats involved with doing an intake swap? do the cobra intake manifolds bolt right on or do you have to change a bunch of stuff around?
 
Personally, i like gen II better, but it is all preference, and if you are gunna buy a 96-98, watch for good deals, i just bought a silver '98 LSC with 40,000 miles for 3500. :) good deal, and it is in mint condition, i love it.
 
ok, sure, once i wax it i will get pics, lol i got it like a week ago, just got finished cleaning the interior from some smudges
 
I have a 94 but would love to have a 98. Love everything about the Gen 2.

40K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i have 100K more than you, well almost (139K) on my 98 lsc :eek:
