What kind of remote start are people using and if I have one installed does it screw with the exterior number/lock pad on the door? Are there any good ones that arent crazy expensive and how hard are they to install? Thanks guys

I think some use viper..? I want to get the one that can be controlled from my phone.. but that's pricey and requires a yearly due..

I have a Viper Remote Start/Alarm and it works great, but i dont have a key pad.

I have a remote start that came from the dealer. I didn't lose any features except the ability to make the windows open via remote.

I am using an AutoStart AS-2775(very fair prices on Ebay). Nothing fancy but it works like a charm and has been on the car for about 9 months. VERY IMPORTANT: Do not lose one of the remote starter fobs because they are harder to find than Noah's Ark. Went through that ordeal and it took 4 months to find one.

I'll be getting a viper alarm/remote start soon, probably this month

Which alarm is it that you can get to work with your phone that costs a monthly fee is it the smartstart

New viper alarms have the iphone app that does it.

Not sure the price is justified though, because apparently the app is only one-way.

SO you can start your car and stop it. But it doesnt tell u if the alarm is going off etc.

I had a Viper put in in the fall of 2007 and within several months it caused the ecm to throw a P2067 and a PO 462 code saying the voltage is wrong from the fuel level sensor and at the cluster.
I have to disconnect the thing for the check engine light to go out so the car will pass the obd2 scan.
I'm going to take my car to the lincoln dealer to instal an Avital that they recommend.

Okay so I just researched it again, I guess there was an update 2 months ago that finally gets the 2-way communication to work.

However it still looks delayed greatly. I think the alarm with the FOB is worth it, but not so much the phone hardware YET.

This is SmartStart 2.0 BTW

It's not all viper alarms either, it's just the viper smartstart system that's compatible with the app

They're all the same.

Viper, Clifford, and Python are like all the same DEI systems.

And all of them have their own 'app' accordingly. Yet they are all basically the same.

But you need the smartstart one for each cuz I have a new viper alarm but I don't think I can use the app. Right?

Smart start is an additional device to the above alarm(s). It is around $200 bucks I think now, they dropped the price $100 when 2.0 came out.

And when you get that installed I wonder if it replaces your FOB, I don't think I like the idea of only having my phone to unlock my car. What if you lost it you would be screwed.

I just checked he Android market, and it does have an alerts tab that it says will set off an alarm on the phone telling you the car alarm is going off.. it also allows you to gps back to our car if you forgot where you parked.. :)

I think bestbuy sells both a one-way and a two-way

Ya your right its just a two way
theres no one-way of the smartstart.
