Does anyone know what the part, labeled by the yellow and green arrow, is called? It's one of the reasons I think my LS has been in a wreck. The one on the driver side has been pulled off. The rear part of it is still on the car, and you can see where it clearly broke. I want to replace the part, but I have no clue what it is called.

Thanks 05LS8, you got me on the right track. Looks like Ford calls it a "Frame Rail Brace", and it's roughly $180.

Thanks for your help, I know a lot about cars but suspension isn't one of them. Past what a spring, shock, and stabilizer bar is I don't know much. lol

One quick question. Which side of the vehicle is considered the LH? Is it looking at the vehicle from the front or from the driver seat? Why can't they just say driver or passenger side?

The pick'n'pulls on the south side of town generally still have 'em on the LS's there.
That's a pretty important part!

AFAIK, it is always from the driver's point of view, so left = driver's side (North America).
Left is always left, but the driver's side varies with the country involved. (There are LSes with the driver on the right side.)

I need to go look. I haven't had the wheels aligned since I bought the car back in Feb because of this piece. I'm not sure if it affects alignment, but I don't want to take any chances.

Thanks for clearing that up for me!

Nope. It's just there for structural rigidity. It was added mid-run on the 2000s. Early 2000s didn't have them; my (old) 8/00 build has them.

For anyone that ever searches for this part again:

Ford calls it a Frame Rail Brace
Tasca has it listed as a Crossmember Brace

Those are the pieces that scrape being lowered. They are strong.
Apparently not strong enough. The one on the driver side of my car was broken. Someone removed a majority of it, but left the parts surrounding the bolts. I want to replace it before I have the wheels aligned and I replace the tires.

I don't see how to even brake that unless your car has been in an accident. Or has severe rust problems.

I scrape mine over concrete speed bumps and elevated areas in entrances/exits all the time, it just has scrapes.

Perhaps you could break it by ramping the car up onto a curb and it slams down.

Unfortunately, I never got the car fax for my car, but it has signs that it was in some kind of wreck on the front. It has a lot of parts on the front that look like they were laying in a junk yard somewhere for a long time. I believe they broke the part, but concluded it wasn't necessary to replace. That would also explain my uncharacteristically hazy headlights. They seem to have a lot more aging than the rest of the car. Perhaps from days on end of sitting in a junk yard.

Ya, my 2000 didn't have them. It seemed to work fine without them. My 2002 does have them. I'm sure they serve their purpose but IMO I can't tell any difference. Although I don't do autocross or take any corners at 75mph either :)
