What is it about Lincoln Mark VIII Owners?

I went to spend the afternoon with Monstermark up in Milwalkee yesterday. On the way home, as I was cruising down I-94 I come along another 1st Gen Black Lincoln Mark VIII --- with snowflake rims --- running down I-94. As I pulled along side the guy driving noticed me, looked at my Mark VIII, looked up and me and gave a big smile and a thumbs up.

This isnt the only time a fellow Lincoln Mark 8 owner has gestured hello just because we share the same car, it happens kinda of frequently. This never happened when I had my Ford Mustang, or when I drive the Lincoln Town Car, only with my Lincoln Mark 8.

How cool it is to own a car that fellow owners feel a sense of commarde.

In the 60's 70's & early 80's that was typical of Corvette owners, always waved to one another. A mutal admiration thingy.........

Bah! around here, most of the Mark's have blue-hair'd pilots, who cant see ANYTHING, let alone another car.

Guy just moved a couple doors down, has a Black 96 LSC. I saw him one day as I was pulling into my driveway. He sais "I like your car"...I said "yea, I like yours too...96, right?(knowing it was either a 96, or a 95 with added HID's)

He responds "yea...anniversary edition".

I turned my head, and drove into my garage.

Poor guy got 'taken" by the dealer, I'm sure...or saw it advertised with the typical "96 diamond anniversary edition"...and its BLACK!!!

It will take me a few more days to get over his ignorance...then I'll set him straight. Its just hard to tell a total stranger that HIS car isnt what he thinks it is.

anyway...I have only seen 2-3 other Mark VIII owners (that I didnt know) even notice my Mark(s).
 
Air cooled Volkswagen owners are like that too. I'd often wave or be waved at while driving my SuperBeetle by other classic VW owners.

Oh I get that all the time here in Austin, Texas, too. I see some people that have Mark VIII's driving down the road who have been super friendly passing by. I seem to have caught on and feel the warm comradery between Mark VIII owners and join in whenever I see them driving down the road. :)
I think this car was an instant classic the day it was released from the Lincoln plant. It's like I'm driving some kind of classic corvette or something.

Truely, it is a unique experience.
 
When I have my car in the local car show, I get all sorts of people come up to me and say how nice of a car I have, and how good it is to see that a 20 year old is in to cars and not drugs (even though the cops say different) they like the simple fact that its unique and original. I get the critics once and a while but than the damn ricers see what I really have they back down! Ha I love it!

i like waving at t-bird drivers when they try to take me at red lights, it's a real pleasure showing them the difference. :steering
 
The production numbers are pretty low on them so it is not often you see another on the road.
 
Went to PEP BOYS here on Route-1 to pick up some stuff for the tune job...
3 kids (When I say kids... I mean 17/18/19) that worked at the store were out
checkin out the Mark. As always, I park way out so it don't get hit be the dingdoor idiots. I hit unlock on the keyless and they turned around! I was walkin up with a smile. They all said, just checkin it out... I said no broblem fellas.

I like the fact that even the young ones like it.

not all mark 8 owners are so nice. jamler,brent and i scared the piss outta somekid last month in a gas staion in joysey it was funny and jamler was like relax between us we own like5 of these things it was hilarious.

There is some thing intimidating about a bunch of marks lined up in a parking lot.
 
thats just the point we didnt have the marks i habd the windstar ands jamler had his 4runner and brent was with jamler and weelz wasnt even there yet. it was hilarious

its fun being known as the premier "hot rod" arround here. There ARE quite a few kick A cars, but none that are out like I am. Everyone knows me and my car, and when they see a smokescreen blocking the highway, they know who it is :) there are 8 other marks in my town of 46000ppl, we got 2 red 3 green (first gens) one black, two white (second gens). Its not to often i see another mark owner round here that knows what they have, or appriciates what it is. Unless you know someone with one. I get them ricers looking all the time, but not as much as they drool over my monte with a broken ragtop and doors that dont close...hmmm, i will never understand them.
 
o btw if yer still looking for a mont i know where yher is an ss i dont know nuttin bout it except it location
 
sad thing is , not to make any one feel old or any thing . when my car rolled off the line i was in the 2nd grade and dint even know what a V8 was. hell i dint even know what a mark was untill my friend got one 3 years ago.
