What does it take to run 12's ?

What would it take to run 12's in a mark viii? My set up will consist of..... C heads forged internals cobra intake vortech 3:73 gear LSD JMOD tranny cooler of course a good tune, that should do it right? I see there is a lot of hate on other forums for the mark viii, they all act as if I'm living a fairy tail to own a 12 sec mark, so what does it take?
 
4:10s not 3:73, nitrous, remove everything inside other than the driver seat to include carpet, remove EVERYTHING from the trunk.
Forged internals, larger injectors, larger MAF, aluminum skinnys on the front,
3:73s are a waste of time and money in these cars

How the hell are DLF and KStromberg running 13's then, and not supercharged? I'm not saying 12 flat 12.90 I'm happy! Hell 12.99 your still in the 12's
 
If you going Vortech there is not really a reason to bother with C heads. Get the Vortech a good tune, gears, and a converter. Worry about forged internals when something lets go. You can make 400hp safely on the stock long block and have it live.

That should get you 12s. If it doesn't there is a problem.
With that said, the forum you were on was feeding you bullchit and/or is full of a bunch of snobby people that don't give a hoot about the Mark8s and are obviously uneducated. Every Mark VIII that has a blower and supporting mods(gears, stall,exhaust,tune, fuel system upgrades) will run AT LEAST 12s. If your motor is forged, it has the integrity to be able to withstand even more boost and rpms. Put a smaller pulley on that car with a good tune and it should be working its way towards 11s.

I am picking up a Vortech Mark8 tomorrow and consider it a very very mild setup at this point with a very safe tune with mild timing, log manifolds and stock torque converter and it still pulled off a 12.9 @114 mph slugging like hell off the line. I'll have it in the low 12s by the time I get a stall converter and headers on it. The trap speed is definitely there.

Are 4:10's ok for everyday driving?

Just fine. I run 4.30s in my all motor Mark8. 4-speed autos with overdrive are a good thing. ;)

Cobra Intake
4.30 gears
3800 stall
JMOD
Kooks headers w/ full 2.5" exhaust
Mail order tune (manually shifting at 6600-6700 rpms because shift points were too low)
255-50-16 ET Streets and dead hookin'

Neither DLF or I ran 13s until we swapped over to the Cobra intake. I have yet to see a Gen2 with bolt-ons run 13s on the stock intake. It is a far worse design than the Gen1s and was a huge restriction in our setups. I picked up a half-second from the intake alone and ran a 13.59 on a mail order tune. I am now dyno-tuned and shifting near 7K rpms and am quite certain it will run low 13s on slicks. The common reason for a Gen2 NOT hitting 13s is fear. As simple as that. People fear the gear, fear the stall, and generally never mess with the intake because of the hassle factor. Those 3 things alone will keep a Gen2 in the 14 second range FOREVER.

DLF is running the following:

Cobra Intake
4.10s
3600 stall
JMOD
Kooks headers w/ full 2.5" exhaust
SCT Pro Racer package w/ datalogging capabilities (tuned by himself < the BEST way possible)
Custom Canton Oil Pan w/ windage tray
Underdrive Pullies
Drag Radials

He has a whole bunch of his bushings in the suspension also and some other things that I am sure I have missed, but that is the main go-fast mods he has. I'm sure he will be quick to correct me if I'm wrong though. ;)
 
Thank You very much, Do you want it for a daily driver with air conditioning ?? But even with that you could do it with a stock engine and NOS. For sure you could do it with a supercharger and the stock engine but I don't see any way of you doing a supercharger for less than I am selling mine for. But maybe you just want to do it yourself or maybe you Mark is nicer to start with, I see its a 2nd generation so maybe that matters to you ??

That will give you a good idea for a starting point and this car I believe is a Supercharged car in the "beginning" stages. This is a dead nuts high 12 car with the current setup. As you will notice, the car is on meth injection rather than intercooled. That choice is simply up to you, but if you follow this recipe fairly closely and add a high stall converter and headers, you'll run 12s without a problem.
 
To date though you still need a power adder or a modified engine to get into the 12s. That may change before long but if you could be happy with low 13s with a 2nd generation KStromberg and DLF will help you get there with a stock engine.
