Went to the track for the second time, last time was in July with 90 degree temps, high humidity, and completely stock car, and ran a best of 15.2. Since then I've removed the air silencer, swapped wheels and tires, which isn't much, but I was hoping that having slightly better airflow, and BFG KDW2's out back instead of the stock Michelins would help me out. Temps last night started at 73 degrees and dropped to somewhere below 62. So stickier tires, better airflow, lower temps and less humidity, maybe I was hoping for a little much but i wanted to touch 14's. No such luck though, got a new best time on my second run. Tires still spun but I'm sure the stockers would have worse. Problem was, this time the car kept bouncing off the limiter in 3rd, which on the second and third race I felt it jerk the car (third race I even left overdrive on thinking that shifting my slow me down less than bouncing, but it bounced anyway). I'll be going again this Saturday now I'm not expecting as much as last night, but I still want to improve. Slips are as follows:

Run 1:
Reaction Time: 0.510
60 Foot Time: 2.289
330 Foot Time: 6.481
1/8 Mile Time: 9.888
1/8 Mile MPH: 71.33
1000 Foot Time: 12.767
1/4 Mile Time: 15.187
1/4 Mile MPH: 91.64

Run 2:
Reaction Time: 0.113
60 Foot Time: 2.262
330 Foot Time: 6.450
1/8 Mile Time: 9.850
1/8 Mile MPH: 72.81
1000 Foot Time: 12.732
1/4 Mile Time: 15.175
1/4 Mile MPH: 88.58

Run 3: (spun real bad)
Reaction Time: 0.187
60 Foot Time: 2.358
330 Foot Time: 6.559
1/8 Mile Time: 9.966
1/8 Mile MPH: 71.10
1000 Foot Time: 12.855
1/4 Mile Time: 15.284
1/4 Mile MPH: 91.34

Last time out my lowest trap speed was a 92.01 with my highest being 93.61. Tire Rack told me the BFG's are an inch shorter than the stockers, maybe being shorter the car is hitting higher rpm's at that point on the track.

Next time I go out will be the last for the season, and I'll only be hoping for 15.0's, I'm pretty sure the second run would have been one if not for hitting the limiter. I'm going to replace my dirty air filter and maybe throw in some octane booster for the hell of it. Any other ideas?

Btw, good seeing you again last night greenlinc, how did you run?

Hey Jaybird I only got 2 runs in. The first run against some stupid little v-tec prelude. I had him off the tree, I had him at 60ft, and then he hit the juice about halfway down his run.....14.5 at 102!!!! I ran a good 15.19 at 94.1 mph. My second run I forgot to turn off the defrost and ended with a 15.4. Here is that video...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxPtrPxiD1k. Milan was a disaster yesterday, 2 crashes and numerous spills made for a lot of standing around!

Jbird, your MPH is low but the ET is really good for what MPH you are getting. When was the last time you did a full tune up?

Yea that sitting around thing was horrible, I got to the track at 4:30, jumped right in line and didn't actually run untill 5:45:eek:. My first run was kinda like yours. Next to a C5 Vette thinking okay I'm definitely going to lose this one, then he sprayed while staying. OMG C5 ON NOS!! Turned out having a good front row seat to a 10.279@134.41 run, he crossed the finish line less than a half second after I got past the 1/8th!! Good first run, did you spin at the line? Lol, gotta remember to kill the defrost. Oh well its always fun to go to the track. I noticed the camera in your car, we gonna be seeing any in car vids?

It actually probably does need a tune up. Its been awhile. Though that low mph was because of it hitting the rev. limiter. Felt like I had hit the brakes, It did it in every run but apparently the timing on that run gave me a low trap speed. If you compare the e.t.s all the way down the track of my first two runs, I was ahead and getting extra time at each mark down the track in the second, up to 4 thousandths at the 1/8 mile, 3 thousandths ahead at the 1000' but only crossed the line 1 thousandths quicker.

Btw here are videos of my second and third run:

I have to transfer the video from my video camera to the computer. I did not like the track prep last night at all. Both runs I spun off the line and then the tires hit real hard like they were in a puddle, and then hit dry pavement. Maybe I didnt stage quite far enough up. By the way I agree your mph are low. If you figure out whats going on it should get you some extra tenths. I know my car pulls like a S>O>B> from 70 on up.

Yea, I agree about prep. My third run I spun soo bad. Im gonna try leaving overdrive on and hoping that it actually shifts, maybe that will save me some time. If that doesn't work, looks like I'm gonna have to find some sticky tires that are stock diameter.

Went back again on Saturday. Only changes to the car were emptying out trunk, and turning off air ride. Launched from idle, let it run, and left a happy man.

good job man......was that a v6 stang in that video.....Ill have to let you do a run with my car next time, ill empty everything from the trunk and you look like you weigh a good 150# less than me, maybe you could get mine into the 14's haahahaha(i weigh a bit over 300)

Thanks, yea that was was my supervisor's v6. If you want I can, I am a scrawny dude lol, though it'd be more enjoyable for you to get it into the 14's yourself. Emptying out the trunk and turning off air ride seemed to do wonders. Track was a little better condition than on Wednesday. I was really surprised to get an increase of 0.5 seconds when all that was done was replaced air filter, put in a can of octane booster, trunk, air ride, and launching from idle instead of around 1500rpm.

I dont know why I never thought of turning the air ride off, I guess the compressor wouldn't be kicking on through the last part of the run? Your final speeds still look slow. My 15.19 run was at 94 mph. Yours should be about the same given you even have the 3.27 ratio.

Driller told me to turn it off, he said it keeps the compressor from cycling, which is a large electrical charge. Also it keeps your car lower, at parked height, which can trip the sensor at the end of the track sooner than if raised, so cuts down on et. Someone from LOD figured out that the tires I'm running are 2 1/2 inches shorter than stock. The shorter tires are spinning faster than stock would, so I'm hitting the rev limiter at a lower speed than you are, which is why I'm trapping 91's at best.

Nice runs jbird. Those times are considerably better. How much did you have in you trunk? Did you leave the spare in?
Im goin again this friday, Ill try with the air ride off. Hope to hit 14s, car already had a full tune up and O2s and I just changed the oil.

Thanks everyone.

Couldn't have done it without your tips Driller.

At the track I took out my spare tire, scissor jack, a hydraulic floor jack, and small tool set. Good luck on Friday, let us all know how you run.

Thanks Leart, I'm still waiting on my buddy to take daytime pictures of it though.
