I've done some research and am still undecided on what battery to get. Some people say get the yellow top, even the guy at the electronic store said go with yellow top, some people say its a waste of money and it sucks. On here someone said go with a kinetics battery. Some say its good, some say it sucks as well. I'm stuck. I want a battery that will last with the car off with the stereo playing and no die after 20 min and still start the car. I want to later get some better subs in place of the stock ones, I do want a big bass sub set up but I dont like how its take up most of the trunk space so I'm sticking with the stock subs location. Any high performance battery you guys recommend? I need to replace mine so It will need to start the car after playing the radio, not just for the system to play with the car off like an add on....Unless I have to go that route, I would prefer not having two batteries and have to upgrade the alternator. Well whatever you guys recommend throw it out there

Well for stereo stuff I would say an interstate up front and an Optima gel in the trunk.
 And with two batts you wouldnt have to upgrade the alternator Since it has two storage units two draw from now it really will be less load on the alternator. But Interstate is the best batt made in my opinion.

That would be a neat trick if he could install a battery up front in the engine compartment.

;)

1bad4.6l, the LS's have the battery next to the spare tire in the trunk.I was under the impression I would neep to upgrade the alt. Maybe two batteries isn't that bad then

I had an 88 yugo gvs with the stock alt. I also had an 1200 watt amp and if the lights were on they would dim with the beats. I put an extra batt in the trunk and never had an alt issue or a headlight issue again.:D

I have a cap for sale cant remember the brand or the farad rating. 25.00 bucks and its sold. I will get the info if you want it.

I have run a red top for 2 years now with no problems...winter starts...stereo...all good..I'd recomend it for sure.

Yea, I was wondering that when I first picked up my LS, batteries always say dont place in a closed area, must have venthillation, so I wondered how they did it in the LS, then I seen the vent thing connected, how would you rig that up with another battery? Or would you?

Vent? Is that what that little hose it for connected to the side?

do red top batteries VENT?

Yes, they most certainly do. That is why they have the two vents on top. One of the members on this forum came up with a way to connect the two vents on top of the battery to the stock vent tube.

Yeah I was talking about that little tube connected to the battery. I had no idea what it was for and didn't batteries vented

Kinetik's dont need venting....and they are like a goddamn generator!

Cool. But its not a reaplcement battery is it? What if go with like a 1200 or 1800watts kinetic

They can be, I used my little Kinetik to jump a big ford superduty diesel truck once.....couldnt reach the way he was parked so I took my little one out and used it to jump it...

It all depends on how much you wanna spend.

I used Kinetik batteries to start/run my other vehicle and it starts up just fine, it is actually more powerful than previous stock-caliber one.

Also if you run multiple batteries, it is best to get similar types. IE: All 'dry'-cell batteries.

I run a series of 5 kinetiks and have no problems at all.

So then I could replace my battery with a kinetic.I used that power calculator on the kinetic website and just put in 1000 watts, which i dont have but just to estimate, and it gave me a 1400 watts battery. Andrizzle, since you've used them before, should I go with this or go with like a 1800 just in case. I dont mind spending the extra bucks if the battery wont die on me.

The 1400 is very small. I have had one and it is smaller than your LS battery now. Maybe not same demension-wise, but it is tiny.

I have an 1800 now, It is definitely plenty for the LS, I know that.

However I am not sure about fitment into the battery stock location. That is the only thing I am unsure of, someone PMd me a while back asking me to measure my 1800 so i could see how it fits in my LS, but I never got around to it... I could probably do that soon... (in my newly wrecked LS)
