Wanna shine your car like new?

I tried the ICE polish. I does go on alot easier than regular wax but as for taking it off of black paint no way even with a microfiber cloth. Ill stick with Meguires gold class.

See, for me removing most waxes is almost effortless.

The key is proper, thin, application.

I had GREAT results from my Meguiar's clay bar. End of last summer I spent about 6hrs on a Saturday cleaning my car and the result was amazing. Hand wash x2, towel dry, clay bar, a little touch up paint, and wax. Best shine and smooth feel the car has ever had.

I will use the 2nd bar that came with my kit this summer.

My mistake. It's actually Mother's clay bar kit. I just saw it earlier in my trunk when I was doing the LEDs for the back seat here in the garage at work.

Its actually just as equal to the Megs IMO. It does its job. Its not like the higher end brands but you will like what it does for a product so readily available.

I have to admit, I was let down in a way cause of all the hype I saw here previous to Kyles detail thread but again it does its job. Its even better if you follow up and actually use the polish afterwords rather than just waxing it after you clay it.

Well werner, you could always make the trip over to Kyle's for a detail. He's in Jersey.

I know. I thought about mentioning it sometime.

Im still good tho. Im going to try all the goodies you guys recommended to me soon but Im still just wiping with water and its clean. It is loosing some beading effect.

What I meant was that before his thread was started a few other members here gassed a few products up but once he filled us in I was a bit disappointed with the way they worked after reading more reviews on other brands he pointed out.

What I do really need is a good correction for some of these fine scratches. But man do I wish I could build up the balls for one of those wet sands you and Sully did.

One thing about my car and my experience is that the finish looked horrible. Maybe its all the driving i do or something. After washing it still had water marks that wouldnt come off and the finish almost looked like a dark grey instead of black. I could feel embedded junk when i ran my hand across after washing and like i said its pointless to wax when the finish is sh!tty. My old clay bar was nasty so i set out to get a new one, i saw this ICE kit and i went for it. Whether its junk or it'll wash off when it rains or whatever, the nasty look of the finish and the embedded junk is gone. What i wanted to accomplish has been done. What happens down the line who knows? I do use Meguiars Gold Class wax to keep it shined and beading, but when i tryed the wax before i did the ICE thing it still looked horrible and was almost impossible to remove the wax. The finish needed a good cleaning which i think i accomplished, now its just a matter of maintaining it. When i wash my car i do a thorough job...down to the door jams, wheel wells, inside the front/lower grill, everything. I've just been very unhappy with the outcome of my latest cleanings and felt i needed to try something new. I am sure there are tons of high quality/professional washes and waxes and polishes, but i happened to choose something off the shelf at Walmart and i'm happy with the results. Could a different product have produced better and longer lasting results? Sure. I went the route i did and for now i'm happy. Dropping $15 to try something is no big deal. I'm sure i did no harm to the finish so time to move on.

Just washed my car to test the theory that the shine will wash away. One word.... Fabulous !!!! Love it.

looks good, aslong as it worked that is all that matters

Nice. Looks good. I can't really tell but what grill do you have on there? the Mclaren?

Your LS looks alot like mine! Except I don't have that little trunk spoiler

The car does look good.

However, not to sound rude but you do understand it takes more than one wash for even the worse product to fade unless your using certain products like HD cleanse that are meant to take away wax so you can start with a clean sheet of paper?

We are agreeing that if it works for you now and you like the way it looks during this present time and dont care what it looks like in the future then good for you thats all that counts.:)

All I ask you to do next time you decide to do a wash, clay, and wax and you really wanna get a good result and admire hard work experiment with some other products.

Mostly those mentioned by Pete and Kyle in the detail thread:D

almost all clay is made by one company which holds the patent on it. so as far as the claybar itself, you're probably good. the only thing i would worry about is it being too tame, and not removing everything. but it sounds like you got good results. the liquid claybar product is a joke though. to me it seems like the clay particles woul settle in the fine scratches, filling them in and hiding them temporarily. are the scratches going to return after 1 wash? obviously not. but just understand that its just a temporary fix.

shine dont just wash away unless your waxing at the car wash with the spray hose. Sure over time your wax will break down but if you keep a good coat on consistantly you shouldnt have trouble loosing a shine. Other than dust of course

Don't get so technical pete.... :D
anyway zaino is the ish
i agree. i've never used it before, but ive seen the results from z2 with zfx additive. very impressive. since you like sealants, check out jeff werkstat acrylic jett trigger. so easy to use. sprays on like a qd. shines and protects like a sealant.

Thanks for the compliments. I just want to stress once again that i didnt intend on this ICE product to be the end all long term solution. My Meguiars wax is my long term solution to keeping a shine. I just wanted to buy something that would clean the crud that was embedded in the paint and let me have a fresh slate to apply the wax too. I may never have to use the ICE stuff ever again. Who knows? I'll admit that its been neglected somewhat as far as waxing, but i dont plan on letting it get to that level again.

Now another entirely different issue, now that the rest of the car is shiny the side mirrors look like complete sh!t. They are so knicked and pitted with road debris, bugs, rocks, etc over the last 103K miles that I think they are beyond fixing. I think the only solution is too have them repainted, shouldnt be too expensive.

I know. I thought about mentioning it sometime.

I'd be down for it you just gotta let me know when since I'm in Philly.

As far as the car, it does look good, but again it's fillers and it is somewhat dark out in the pictures which is a huge thing. Gotta look good in direct sunlight.

I think I have a bottle of Rain-Dance somewhere.

Really though, I've been just trying to keep a solid coat of wax on the car to protect it through the winter. Now that there is no more threat from road salt I need to spend some real time on it fixing road chips. There are also some scratches all along the bottom of the driver side doors that were there when I purchased the car. From a distance you can't see them but they drive me nuts.

Anybody with experience want to help a guy out?

No, I was really referring to somebody helping out by coming to my house and doing it for me. But thanks for the information! :D

Mothers Cali Gold = only over the counter wax program to buy!

For wash, I like to use the RAIN-X with the wax beads in it (love that stuff!)

I have always loved the results from the California Gold line from Mothers. Its a couple of steps, it takes the whole day, but it is DAMN well worth it. A durable shine for weeks.

I have also used the ICE line when it first came out, and I was unimpressed. I only used it because I had a Focus, and I dreaded waxing it because it had flat black plastic in the doors and hood, etc. I hate wax stains on plastic, and ICE advertised no wax stains. I used it, and it shined like a spray wax would (this was the liquid wax in a bottle), and like stated before, it attracted dust like a magnet. I had a car show the next day and I stood next to my car most of the day with my california car duster.
