W3Z2 Question....

So what's the deal on the F3 W3Z2's? I thought as long as you had a Z2 you were golden. What's the difference between a F3 Z2 and just your regular W3Z3?

W3Z3 WOT spark
6000.000 27.0
5000.000 24.0
3500.000 23.0
3150.000 19.0
3050.000 14.0
2500.000 12.0
2000.000 12.0

W3Z2 WOT Spark

6000.000 32.8
5000.000 29.0
3500.000 26.5
3150.000 22.3
3050.000 17.0
2500.000 15.0
2000.000 13.0

W3Z3 Rev Limit 6450

W3Z2 Rev limit 6850

W3Z3 1-2 shift 5600
W3Z2 1-2 shift 5600

W3Z2 speed limit (driveshaft revs) 16372= no speed limiter
W3Z3 speed limit (driveshaft revs) 5400 = max speed limited!

Shift pressure on the W3Z2 PCM is about 15 PSI higher as well, for a more solid, quick shift.

Once the 93 has been chipped, none of the above applies anymore. It will be as equal as the next PCM that is chipped, depending on programming, etc...

800 rpm higher rev limit =6800 rev limit
6-8 degrees more wot timing for a total of 32 degrees
no speed limiter

Once that PCM is chipped, it is equal to any other PCM. Nothing special about it anymore.

^ I thought those were the stats for the "good" W3Z2's (I'm guessing F2's). I'm talking about the F3 W3Z2's.

Edited above. Someone mentioned that a long time ago and I really can't stand by that particular year PCM being any different than the 93 W3Z2. The above numbers are directly from software, according to an old reliable source.

Ok.. riddle me this.

My traction assist coule be turned off w/ my Z3

I install my Z2 and I cannot turn my traction assist off.

So I reinstall my Z3.... still can't turn it off...

Makes no sense.

And both are speed limited :(

But I can tell a huge difference when I was driving w/ the Z2!!! Pulls like a sonofabeech

I can deal w/ speed limitation if I can figure out the traction assist issue. I wonder if the bulb inside my T/A switch blew? I didn't drive it since I put the interior together but I KNOW I plugged everything in properly

or the bulb came loose or something. mine straight fell out under the center console somewhere..

I pulled it all apart after I posted this. Bulb looks good

Oh, and also, if the W3Z2 didn't have traction control wouldn't it be stuck OFF?

I would imagine so, which IMO is a good thing. If it was really needed, it would have been in all the Marks but to hear people talk on here, all it does is bog them down if they're racing and forget to turn it off. Ask Mike Shultz what happened to him on National TV when he forgot to turn his off.

I don't live in snowy conditions and see no reason for anyone that doesn't, to ever have it turned on. If my car did have it, I would disable it completely.

dunno. but now that i think about it, i don't think my TC works either... i've never felt it since the computer swap.

anyone got a good way to test it? if not, i just think its cool i don't have to turn it off every time i get in the car. lol.

I'm going to get a new T/A switch from a junkyard car and see if that's the issue. Since it wonr even turn off with my original Z3 computer.... I hope I don't have a pinched wire. If that doesn't solve it, I willl swap ABS sensors in the rear

I was under the impression that if you tried to swap computers from a T/A car to a non-T/A car and vice versa, it wouldn't even work at all. Someone mentioned it somewhere on here before, possibly earlier in this thread.

+1 My 93 didn't have T/A, and I used to drive it in some slightly icy/snowy conditions with no problems. One night I was in my parents' '96 LSC (which, by the way, since we're on the topics of ECU's, was always slower than my 93 with a W3Z3, even when my 93 was stock), and I raced a guy from a dig, and since I wasn't used to a car with T/A, I didn't think to turn it off, and I ended up losing a race I should've won because of that. Pissed me off later when I figured out what happened, especially since it was the only race I'd ever lost AND it was the only race I was in that was ever put on YouTube.

Well I think its a bad bulb after all.... since it was wet I could test it better an d so I tried to take off w/ it "on" and it bogged but still spun.... then did another stop sign launch with it off as far as I could tell, and I was able to blast thru 2nd gear spinning and trying to hold it straight. Guess I need to repace the bullb and test it.... although it doesn't look replaceable
