He voted four out of five times for George Bush's budget which put us half a trillion in debt this year and over three trillion in debt since he got there.
You do know that Bush doesn't hold the purse strings, right? That is Congress. So to say it was "Bush's budget" is misleading...
Also, what spending precisely put us in debt? While you may want to assume it was for Iraq and the War on Terror, you cannot prove that. There are other things that the government spends much more money on that it has no business spending it on, Welfare, Medicare and Medicaid, for instance. Ultimately trying to prove this issue is going to come down to a matter of priorities in the budget, that neither side can convince the other on.
Besides, do you really wanna prioritize welfare and entitlements over national security?
He has not been a maverick in providing healthcare for people. He voted against including another 3.6 million children in coverage of an existing health care plan in the United States Senate.
Another misleading statement. He voting against what would have been an
expansion of an existing program. Besides, it isn't the government's business to provide healthcare to people. Again, it comes down to priorities...
He's not been a maverick when it comes to education. He has not supported tax cuts and significant changes for people being able to send their kids to college,
Again, priorities. Why should the government be responsible for someone's college education?
he's not been a maverick on the war
What?! He called for the surge before Bush did!
Can we get mom's MRI? Can we send Mary back to school next semester. We can't make it. How will we heat the house this winter?
Again, you are assuming quite a bit here. Government has no roll to play in those areas, yet you assume that they do. In fact, in a number of your examples, government "intervention" is what has made those areas bad in the first place.
Medicare and Medicaid drive up the cost of healthcare...
Government regulation and policy drove up the cost of heating a house...
All you have demonstrated is that McCain doesn't hold the same political priorities and assumptions that you, and most of the far left do. That hardly proves that he is not a "maverick"...
