virus

Running fine here for me. I was using AVG for a long time but now I am using Avast Anti Virus. Once every 2 or 3 days, I always run "Advanced Disk Cleaner 5.0 and the download is free and it does remove junk files.

Once I'm done running that program, I'll get into Disk Cleanup that's already installed in the laptop and finish off the cleaning. De-fragment also every 2 weeks, even if it says you don't need to, it helps.

Never install 2 anti virus programs on your computer at the same time. Just a reminder.

add in, FF plus Ad block helps keep the garbage away..

Yes, Firefox is a big plus. I don't use IE8 or IE9 for anything. The only reason any of my 3 PC's and laptop use Internet Explorer are for updates only. Those are set for automatic updates but behind the scenes, the computer is using IE for your Windows and or Microsoft updates. Firefox is the browser to use. Little to zero security issues and many features (plugins) if wanted or needed and it's fast. I think I am on Firefox 15.0 which is the latest version and it's really quick.I never see any popup ads either. None!

I've got a virus affecting my firefox but not affecting the pages I navigate. I would love to delete firefox & reinstall but I have over 200 pages saved on my bookmarks/favorites. Once I erase firefox, there go all my saved pages. It's the only reason I'm dealing with this sh!t.
Funny how I got my A+ certification back in 2003. I used to be a computer wiz... Now? I'm a damn computer tard!

It's gone now I did a complete scan using my avg business edition. It did'nt find anything (already blocked it). It's #1 on avg's list of bad stuff.

Download Malwarebytes. It's free and it works great. I've got it on my computer and it will pretty much get rid of any malware or virus you have. That's what the techs at work use to debug our computers.

To back up bookmarks on Firefox. Go to Bookmarks at the top and click on Show All Bookmarks. That will take you to a screen with Import and Backup at the top. Click on that and chose backup. You can import that to your new Firefox install.

I have run Linux for 16 years now and have sympathy for all the Mac and Windose users.

i prefer Chrome over FF and FF over ie.

with chrome and newer FF you can sync all your bookmarks/data to an online server,so even when you delete and reinstall your can immediately reload all you bookmarks, Chrome even allows you to sync your cache/passwords, previous form data entry etc.

never had a security issue with chrome eithr, and it runs super fast, opens broswer instantly.

if i didnt have Chrome,FF would be my choice.

Since we are talking about all this computer stuff here I need to ask a question as I only know basics about puters. This desk top I use came from a person of questionable intent. I would love to run disc cleanup and defrag but it is not in my system tools folder and I cannot find it. Can someone tell me how and where I can get these to get my PC running better. I do run IE8 and when i click on internet it takes like 45 seconds to load my home page where it used to be instant. Also when I click on LVC it takes upwards of a minute to load it.

It is an old pc running XP Pro but I did upgrade it to 4megs of ram. I spen too much money on cars to buy a new machine but I think that is going to be a new year expense cuase I think it is time. This machine was three years old I think when we got it in 08 and it was a business pc refurbed. My daughter has a better laptop as we just bought it for her because she killed her last one by abuse in her backpack and tossing it around in her room.

Any help would be appreciated.

Firefox stores your bookmarks in an html file called "bookmarks". Not sure where it's stored on the Windows version (I use linux), but it should be easy to find. Just copy that file to somewhere on your drive, reinstall firefox (it will create a new file with that same name), and then copy the saved one to that location, overwriting the new one. Presto, all bookmarks are there again.

This!

And Chrome has an AdBlock Plus plug-in as well, not just FF. I've got it installed.
