vin # on engine?

does anybody know where i can find the vin number on a Mark VIII engine?

Drivers side like right above oil pan mounting surface back of block. Here you can see the VIN "pad" right above the low oil sensor.

is it the round thing with the numbers on it on the bottom left of the picture?

No that's the low oil sensor its on the bottom of the block and gets covered by the headers.

Just fine. Haven't yet made it to the track to see if it makes a difference.

I tried like mad to run the #'s on my replacement engine and could not find the car it came from.

Maybe its to check to see if its the original engine? Maybe someone sold him the car and claimed low mileage, when the engine and trans were just replaced with a junkyard high mileage pair? I'm just thinking out loud here.
