Ford is putting Lincoln on the back burner YET AGAIN. Just to be clear though: I Love my Lincoln TC, but am pissed at Ford's vision of the future.I am going to vent frustration from here on out and I invite you to do the same.

PISSED STARTING HERE
==================

It's depressing to see an american company go out of business, except that I want Saturn to (They build them without internal engine GASKETS, GASKETS are sold to you to make out of a tube yourself).

Lincoln will continue to have problems as long as Ford keeps building what no one wants. They are neglecting their highest profit, lowest investment necessary division. If they just keep cranking out Town Cars based on the Panther platform and just keep slightly changing them, they will continue to sell them.

Ford never ceases to amaze me what they'll do now that they have a retard running the company short bus. We have long ago left the era that a car was built to what the customer wants, now you are told what you want.

I hear all the time they are trying to whore out parts from their companies to other divisions. Ford Brainstorming:

NOW
===
-Let's build a Ford and a Mercury based on a Volvo! We'll call it the Ford 500 and the Mercury Montego.

1990's
=====
-Let's make a Ford that is the same as a Mazda! We'll call it the Ford Escort.

Early 1990's
=========
-We'll Buy Jaguar! Instead of putting money into Lincoln and Mercury's lineup we'll buy another distressed luxury brand. We'll sell the same Jaguar Coupe that's been for sale since the mid 1970's, sell the same Sedans (XJ6, XJ8, XJ12), and then in the late 1990's we'll F it all up and build a F***ing WAGON.

Now back to ranting, JAGUAR of England would have never made a f**king WAGON. It is not what they DO. Jaguar is a luxury car and sports car company, they are NOT Volvo (No godd*mn Wagons).

In other words my opinion and that of most EVERYONE is:

We Don't Want Or Need Every Ford Company To Be Turned into VOLVO.

One Volvo Is Enough!

i hear you man i was pist of back in the 90s when they bought jaq im like why cant they put money into lincolnc man come on

cause ford wanted to control a brand that they can make more money off of. then they bought mazda, aston martin, range rover... i would not be surprised if BMW is next. ford is going to turn lincoln into oldsmobile if they do not change stuff over at L/M.

i swear if that ever happens im gona cry for a year man thos freaking asholes

:I Ford really needs to pull their heads out of their asses and start selling good cars agian. Lincoln needs a better lineup. They need to freshin it up something FWD fine. I think one FWD car is a good thing but the whole lineup. Have they not learned from Cadillac. They slumped big time in the 80's and 90's by having an entire FWD line of cars. Ford nieeds to save L and M. If they don't the company will definately fall to pieces. They also need to Redisign the TC. And bring back the Conti, and Mark series.

we should all get jobs at the ford company or threaten them with a car bomb or something.lol

I wouldn't worry to hard about a Volvo-based Town Car. The Panther's body-on-frame design is what attracts most buyers and fleet clients to buy the T-Car. Hopefully, someone will bitch-slap Bill Ford and tell him to "keep his stinkin' paws off of the T-Car, you damn dirty ape!"

If the majority of responses noted above are indicative of the level of maturity of the average Lincoln Town Car owner, then Lincoln is doomed to become just another model name. What Ford Motor company needs to hear is mature thinking and comments, not juvenile comments!! They NEED to understand that Lincoln owners, new car buyers and used car buyers have intelligent opinions – opinions that they’ll use to form their plans regarding Lincoln’s future. With a comments like some of those on this thread, the nay sayers at Ford will be yelling for Bill Ford to cheapen Lincoln down even more, saying that Nassar (previous CEO) was right when he said that the number of mature, intellectual individuals buying Lincoln’s was shrinking rapidly. And don’t kid yourself, the Planning people at Ford have started to constantly read threads like these on the internet so as to keep a “flavor” of Lincoln owners thinking!!

Ford is in a real crisis because they (like GM and Chrysler) have lost valuable market share over the past 30 years, to the point where they just cannot cover all the promises they made to their employees - wages, health, pensions, etc.. Right now, they make more profits from their credit division then they do from U.S. sales, a very sad situation….

Lincoln _COULD_ be a very big help in getting the company back into the black because buyers that buy Lincoln’s new (especially Town Cars) are either corporations, more well to do individuals, or livery companies (limo’s, taxis, etc).. These individuals and entities made Lincoln into the highly profitable division it was up until the late 90’s. At which time, sales started on a downward slide that continues today. Why did this happen???

We currently have three Town Cars: a ’94 Signature (purchased new), a ’96 Cartier (purchased used with 70k miles), and a 2003 Signature (purchased new). I am not happy with the ’03 model and feel it was the waste of the $43000+ that I stupidly wrote a check for. Never again!! The car runs perfectly and in the 16,000 miles my wife has put on it so far, there have been zero problems; but, it obviously has been cheapened from the ’94 and ’96 versions (quality wise). And my biggest gripe: It simply looks like a bloated Toyota!!! I could live with the slight cheapening throughout the car – but not with the Japanese look-alike design any longer.

If Ford had continued to build a LUXERY car, that has the look and feel of a “class act”, then they would still have their all important buyer base. They could have done the styling for the ’98 – ’06 versions in a much more, distinctive Town Car type styling. But they chose not too.

My bottom line is that I’ve bought my last new Lincoln. And I’m very sad to say that. Maybe, with a Ford back at the helm of the company he’ll see the light - after all it was Edsel Ford that had the wisdom to purchase Lincoln from Leeland, and then develope it into the “Class Act” that it was for most of it’s life. Hopefully Henry Fords Great-Grandson, William Ford, will see the light…..

Read the threat title, your holiness; particularly the word "venting". This is a venting thread: implying that people will be venting their frustrations over a foolish decision that may be the TRUE reason that Lincoln may become "just another model name".

If Ford had continued to build a LUXERY car, that has the look and feel of a “class act”, then they would still have their all important buyer base.

Any Lincoln owner who can't correctly spell the word "luxury" need not post anything related to Lincon vehicles and is probably not even a real Lincoln owner, considering that Lincoln is "What a Luxury Car Should Be".

Now go back to the Cadillac forums, n00b... :rolleyes:

I started this thread as a way to vent frustration about the direction of the company. I will start another thread based on productive ways to improve the company, but this is to have a place to feel mad about the Volvoizing of Ford.

See the main Town Car page to see this thread:

Improving Ford, They Won't Do It So We Have To!

Read my post again, evillally!! We currently own _THREE_ Lincolns, two of which were purchased NEW! I've owned a total of 14 Lincolns in my lifetime, 9 of these were bought new directly from Lincoln Dealers! It's buyers like myself that have kept Lincoln going with the direct influx of hard dollars into the company coffers - more so than then the buyers of used Lincolns (although they're obviously a key part of the business equation).

Regarding the spelling of “Luxury” or “Luxery”, just because you have a typically limited education that’s been confined only to the U.S. version of English, that certainly doesn’t start to qualify you as a linguistic expert by any means. You might consider furthering your obviously limited knowledge of the world if you want to pretend to qualify as anything!!

And read posts thoroughly (more than once, preferably) so you can understand what’s been said!!

You're both right. A New car won't sell well if the owner knows there is no market for it once its used. Here's a real life example of that:

Alfa Romeo makes a car called the 166. It is a very nice italian luxury car. Diplomats across Europe love them as much as they love Mercedes, Rolls-Royce and BMW. You can own one for 55,000 Euros (1E - 1$) and sell it with regular mileage in one year for 24,000 Euros. The car doesn't sell very well because no one will buy it later.

The moral of the story is that there is a delicate balance between people buying new and those buying used. If you don't have enough of each of them a car can die off. On another note, please don't flame as it accomplishes nothing. If you really want to make a point to embarass someone, back it up with facts because they can say all they want, but facts are by definition TRUE.

*********************************************************

did you actually look at the car before paying 43000+ for it... dealers allow you to actually view and test drive cars now a days... if you dont like the style you should not have bought it plain and simple ... i dont think any one from ford was holding a gun to your head to make you by the car .. SO QUIT YOUR BITCHING!!!

i wana vent about the continental thinking about it man
why if they are gona bring it back couldnt they just make the new modle
and not take it a way man
they are fuking stupid for that
i wana vent about that shif man

towncarss, I read your comment with much humor. You're wrong - I did have a "gun" to my head!! My wife looked at it, loved it, and did the "Pleeeease, Dear!!!" thing - much more potent then any gun. So I bought it for her - I still think it looks like a bloated Toyota. She loves it and drives it with a lot of care.

Yup, I love the running gear, though - nothing beats the panther platform (suspension, engine,etc).... But the styling - what a step backward, IMHO...
