v6 or v8 LS?

The mileage isnt any different, of course it depends on your driving style. I get 19/21 city and 25/26 Hwy and I drive a V8. At least with the V8 you have more power on tap when every you want or need it. If you want a v8 give me a call I am selling mine. I awd for where I am moving.

I understand the difference in V8s and V6s but in stock form with the 5spd I think the driver can have the power at hand any time its needed. I was never on the highway and felt I needed alot more power. In 2001 the HP numbers were not that far apart.
EPA Fuel Economy:
City: 17 – 18 Highway: 24 – 25
Available Engines:
210-hp, 3.0-liter V-6
252-hp, 3.9-liter V-8
Granted 42 hp is no joke, maybe I am just partial to standards. (this is stock form, I will admit there are alot more go fast parts for the V8)

I pulled that of some random site but I think you will find they are the advertised numbers.

no matter which way you go the car will weigh about the same (which is pretty heavy) if you get a V8 it will handle the mileage better and last longer because its less strain on the engine. many people will say the V6 will get way better gas mileage but i would have to disagree, because the V6 will have to push much harder and wont show much of a difference.

I have a 2002 V8 with the sports package, I drive like an old man and i get 18mpg driving through town.

but good luck on getting a new car its a buyers market in Michigan.

when i bought my first LS(1st gen V6) i still had my 94 Mark VIII so i wasnt to worried about the power difference, but after my mark had the final problem go and i had to part her out:( the V6 LS handled so much better you could take turns at twice the speed i could before and the LS will actually stop when you hit the brakes, i have yet to own a car with the braking power of the ls. however it was slow, very slow. i wouldnt get a V6 unless you were VERY concerned about gas, my 2nd gen V8 still gets better gas millage than my mark, 17mpg vs 22mpg. i do miss just being able to roast off the tires if and when i wanted to not to mention hitting 100 as your shifting out of second but the LS is a more refined car with a lot more high tech toys as opposed to the muscle monster Mark

RIP mark, you will be missed but never replaced

Before I bought my LS, a friend of mine at the Lincoln dealer did tell me to get the V8 and not the V6 and also told me to get a 01 + year LS .. Now i think he told me details why not to get the V6 but i forgot, but i clearly remember him telling me about the first Gens, and look at me, thats what i got, i guess i didnt listen eh? lol

lol...all i kno is my first gen v6 looks alot better than most cars i see an itslike bone stock...soo fuhck all that an LS is an LS...everyne else can SIT BACK

Motor Trend recommended the V6 in 2003

Motor Trend recommended the V6 in their 2003 comparison:

"Now the good news: The LS V-6 with the optional Sport package (standard on the V-8) is at least as dynamically satisfying as its more powerful sibling, except for having less power, of course. And what it loses by giving up 48 horses (the V-6 is rated 232 at 6750 rpm and 220 lb-ft at 4500 rpm) it pretty much makes up for by being lighter and better balanced."

bottom line, test drive them all and see what you think

my 2cents- they can have my extra .9 liters when they pry them from my cold dead hands

hell yea...i love it lol...i jus need rims an chrome strips on the door pannel things an im good..as long as she hold up the way she has been anyway

I think it will probally come down to what deal you could get on one or the other. Of course I haven't seen a LSE Kit on a v6, that would be like false advertisement.

An LSE kit on any non-LSE (excluding the '06es) would be like "false advertising," but there were V6 LSEs.

lol ya dude a body kit is a body kit...i mean if someone ina v6 puttin v8 emblems on er suttin than yaaa false advertisment... i wish i had the v8 so i could get tha cobra wit the lincoln emblem...but id feel retarded in my v6 wit that

That doesn't stop guys with mustangs puting cobra Bodykits, Emblems, and wheels on a Regular V6 Mustang or GT.

I've had both. Had a 2000 V6 Sport Package (Auto tranny) for 3 years and about 65k miles. Currently have a 2002 LSE V8 that I've had since brand new. Curently has 99k miles on it. The V8 is much more suited to the weight of the car, in my opinion. But..if you can locate a first gen V6 with a 5 speed stick, I say go for it. The auto tranny in these things is HORRIBLE when pressed for any performance purposes. It's durable and reliable for sure, but all the hunting between gears and pausing and hesitating (again..when pushed in performance mode) is VERY annoying. My 1999 M3 has an auto with sport and manual modes..but even in regular "E" (economy) mode, the shifting is ALWAYS precise, crisp, and right on time. In Sport mode, it's even better. Examples: In the LS, when coasting down from say...50mph to 25mph..then STOMP on the accelerator. Chances are you will get a weird freewheeling delay before the tranny decides on which gear, then actually makes that selection. In the M3, under the same circumstances, the tranny actually does an almost imperceptible DOWNSHIFT during the coasting phase, placing the car in the right gear AHEAD of time. So as soon as you press the accelerator..INSTANT action. And if you press the accelerator past a certain point and then lift up, it will remain in the downshifted gear/high rpm for several seconds prior to upshifting again...just in case you want to get down on it again. This is from a 1999 transmision (with an engineering design from 1995) with 84k miles on it.

THATS the type of quality/engineering that doesn't always show up in pricing comparisons or even magazine reviews. But once you drive it and experience it, you know its there.

Sorry to get off topic. With that said, love my LSE for my daily driver. M3 convertible is only for weekend fun.

I agree, having a tune on both the engine and transmission address these issue and has made a big difference in performance.
