hi

Rick

We're glad you have an interest in an LS. For the most part, we are very happy with every aspect of the car. As far as calling a six cylinder model better than an eight cylinder model, that's probably a little misguided. It all depends on your preference. I have an 01 v8 with 140,000 miles and I'm very satisfied. If you're lucky enough to find one, they made very few v6's with a manual transmission. One thing to keep in mind, the LS is harder and more expensive to modify than Marks are.

I'm getting a tad over 19 mpg combined in my 2004 V8 premium sport. Whoever told you the V6 is better without giving any specific reasons is not somebody you should be listening to. From my standpoint, the V8 is the way to go, but it's all personal preference. The V6 doesn't do that much better on gas, and there is no comparison when it comes to power/acceleration.

It all depends on what you want as to whether the V6 or V8 is better. If you want handling, the V6 is a bit better--the lower weight of the V6 gives it a near-perfect 50/50 front/rear weight ratio (the V8's no slouch, at 52/48 F/R, but it is a tad heavier). The very few 2nd Gen V6 Sports are reportedly the best handling of all LSes.

If you want a manual transmission, you're stuck in V6 land; all of the V8 are backed by a 5-speed slushbox.

The V6 is marginally better than the V8 on fuel economy, but the difference is small enough that your driving habits will be more important than the EPA ratings.

In general, 2nd Gen LSes have fewer endemic problems than do the 1st Gen LSes (though any individual car can have problems)--aside from generall being lower-mileage vehicles, Lincoln also addressed a great many issues in the '03 redesign. The early '03 V8s had some COP problems, and there's an extended warranty on them. Leaking valve cover gaskets and failed COPS are the most common failings on the 1st Gen V8s (not counting the normal things that go wrong as cars get older); COP problems are relatively rare on the 1st Gen V6es, exceedingly rare in post-'03 V8s, and almost nonexistent in 2nd Gen V6es.

Gen1 - 2000-2002; Gen2 - 2003-2006.

I own a 2000 V8 Sport and my mom owns a 2005 V6 Base model. If you are using it as a DD I would get a Gen2 v6. I personally wouldn't purchase a Gen1 unless it had already had a complete tune up. I get about 20mpg with my mixed driving in my 2000 V8. Not sure what the 05 V6 gets, but I know it's better. Not by much though.

I have an 05 V6. I get aroud town and some freewya driving 19 mpg. I do drive agressive. As for handling it is great, Eibachs, 18" wheels, Maganoflow exhuast and CAI hlpe make the v6 alot sorptier car to drive. Especially at eh higher revs. Oh, I also installed a SST shifter. But like Soonerls said it's all about your intention for the car.

All 3 of them!

I have a 2000 V6 and a 2006 (V8 only). The V8 actually gets better mileage than the V6. IMHO, I would opt for an '03-'06 V8.

v8

I posted a similiar thread about two years ago. I am waiting on delivery of my norsea blue LS ultimate with black interior 2005. It all depends on what you consider fast. I have been driving a 97 maxima gle, cat delete, exhaust, CAI with KN filter, and I thought it was pretty fast. I considered getting a V6 as well. The reason I didn't get it is because the gas mileage is only a small difference, and when I do want that burst of speed, you can't match the v8.With normal acceleration, you won't be doing that bad. At least not as bad as all the "pimp3d out TruckZ yo" around where I live.

Just watch them bumpers in Brooklyn!! And don't bother with that "Bumper Badger". My girl got me one for Christmas and it put very small scratches in my bumper. Thankfully she moved out here with a driveway!!

I have an o5 v6....And I kept up with a older LS V8 on the freeway! If I drive it nice, cruise control on freeway, I have gotten like 27mpg! No kidding!!! But if it is a newer LS v8.....I would get smoked!!! Infact.....someone wants to hear the v6 w/exhuast, and I have a video with that, and has me getiin taken offf the line by a v8 too! U can also hear my car, but I juss have a CAI. Its a video clip from our last SoCal meet. Its like 2 v8's and 3 V6's! Enjoy!

I have never heard any one with the V8 option wishing they had a V6.... On the other hand there are a lot of V6 owners who, you got it " Should of had a V8"...............

I really enjoy my 01 5spd. I get around 20mpg and drive somewhat aggressively. I prefer the stick and have no regrets. If the MPG is your concern the difference in HP makes up for it in the V8. I believe that the stick make its feel faster than it may be. With the after market x pipe the normal person doesn't know if its a V8 or V6. Plus In Florida there are a lot of LSs but 5spds are rare.

All Lincoln LSes have 5-speed transmissions... ;)

Before I found mine I was negotiating with a Lincoln Dealer in Ocala on a V8. I told him I was interested in a standard shift and he told me there was no such thing. I sent him a pick after I bought it.

+1. The fuel mileage difference (if any) is negligible at best.

I drive a V6 and should have bought the V8 that was on the same lot.

The mileage isnt any different, of course it depends on your driving style. I get 19/21 city and 25/26 Hwy and I drive a V8. At least with the V8 you have more power on tap when every you want or need it. If you want a v8 give me a call I am selling mine. I awd for where I am moving.

has anyone wit the v6 installed that BDT...belt driven turbo ..or whatever??...

Still waiting for the full details. We keep hearing about the setup and how much it will do, but waiting for the test mule to get full dyno and computer upgrades.

yaa i kno that dude aint post SHYT up forever lol...just wonderin if anyone else mighta done something...

someone told me that 1995 BUICK 3.8 v6 SUPERCHARGED RIVIERA has 318hp
and would out run lots of cars, but i still like the lincoln
