v10 mark viii?

i came across a mark shell, no drivetrain, no interior, has the front suspension and rear end, with bad tires lol. anyway, i also came across a v10 that's sitting in a work truck that was in an accident. i'm just wondering if there's enough space in the engine bay to fit a v10 without having to sledge hammer or cut everything apart. chances are something will come up and i'll have to pass on this, but if it will fit then even if i have to pass on it thins time, i might want to attempt this sometime down the line. if anyone has a link with dimensions or knows them that's really all i'm interested in. once its in i can deal with making it run and all that fun stuff, so i'm not worried about that.
 
I saw some guy did that on cardomain.com it was a purple Gen1. But he ran into some problems matching up some parts and scraped the project.
 
Besides the cowl hood that would be needed. I think the engine would be very close to the radiator if not into it. Maybe some smaller electric pusher fans would help. This sounds like a good project. That would be a beast of a mark though.
 
If your going to spend that kind of money your better with an 03/04 cobra motor. IMO.
 
why not just twin turbo regular mark viii? v10 seems overkill and heavy!!!!!!

its in a truck for a reason.
 
the 03/04 cobra swap would actually cost me more (i think)...i havent really looked into it. i know the v10 is in trucks for a reason, but it makes a :q:q:q:q load of torque. the shell i found is $150 and the engine is $500 with the ecu the computer and harness. i'm still thinking about it, it was just something that crossed my mind because the option is there. i just needed to know if the v10 would actually fit in the bay, it's still a lot of work so i'm not quite sure if i'm going to go through with it yet but i'm really considering it.
 
I know Mustangs require special V-10 K-members to get one to work, not sure if it would fit in a mark properly without some fab work... I think it would be cool as hell. Especially with 2 big ole hairdryers on it! I think that would more than make up for the weight of the car and the engine! I say do it! Hot Rodding is all about being different!

I see fitting it inside the engine compartment to be tricky since our 4.6 DOHC engines are wedged in there to begin with... Hell worst case scenario just section the firewall like putting a chevy smallblock in a '32 Ford... just make an engine shaped relief in the firewall... heck we have plenty of room under the dash, ya wouldnt even know it!
 
How are you going to mount it? You might have to relocate the motor mount brackets on the K-Memeber.

You'll have to relocate the radiator.

Will it bolt up to the Mark tranny? I think they use the same tranny bellhousing, but I'm not sure.

As mentioned before, what are the weight diferences? You might have to beef up the front suspension... that more than likely will require heavier duty regular struts instead of Air Ride struts.





There are lots of factors to consider in such a swap.
 
I think you should try it. It would be very close to a 5.4 swap. The blocks are more or less the same just longer. bell hosing bolt pattern should be the same all the mod motors are very close to each other. Short deck, tall deck, tall deck V10. It made it easier for development and parts are interchangable to a point. It will be trial and error but go for it if, the price is right. How f ing cool would that be!!!!!!

well i just bought the shell today...it actually had the interior too, the guy said it didnt on the phone a couple days ago but i guess a buyer backed out or something...paid $150 for it, and its actually complete except the engine and tranny, and the air bags are still holding air so it looks like all the air ride parts are good...obviously i'm not sure about the compressor but it was able to pump it up a week ago before the drivetrain was pulled, oh and the trunk lock cover is missing, but everything else is there including a grill in perfect condition with no missing ribs lol...i gotta go talk to my buddy about the v10 in his work truck and see what's up with that. i know it'll bolt up to any modular tranny because it shares the same bellhousing pattern as the 4.6 and 5.4 but this will definitely get a manual tranny if i decide to do this. from the looks of the empty engine bay on the one i just got, it seems like there's enough room for it if i move the radiator forward, i'm not sure about the weight difference, i figure the worst case scenario would be to run some 2600 lb slam bags, or something of that sort, to support the weight. this may turn into a project lol...i'm not sure yet because the original reason i was buying the car was to have extra parts laying around just in case i need something but its in really good shape for a "parts car" and has a clear title so this could go either way.
 
if you have a garage and time just try it. All in the end you lost is money which you can resell the shell and the motor and your time. But on the upside if you can complete the project it would be killer.

I don't know if you guys understand the size difference between the 4.6l and the 6.8L. Not only the added length, but the intake systems are MONSTEROUS compared to the VIII platform. Your gonna need ALOT more than a Cobra R hood to clear it all. IIRC, Bryan needed to use a twin angled radiator system to accomidate the extra length for his project.

This is the engine that I installed in my new F250. I'm gonna run out and snap a picture of the thing installed in the truck to show you how BIG it actually is.

LOL, I and just about everyone on the web knows that the 6 liter will hammer the V-10 into the ground nOOb.

Like I said Frog, a common rail ISB will wake it right the hell up. I'm also thinking about removing the 4" lift and dropping back from 37's to 33"s. It's almost TOO big for me.

So would a jet engine. But for now, you have a V10 in there. hah.

I can't wait till the warranty is up on the 450. Soon as it hits 100K, it's going in for a 5.9 or a 6.7, TT and an Allison 9speed.
 
my truck at work has the V10, F550......i did a headgasket on it last year, the V10 is gigantic, and not that great of an engine...........plus what would the weight distribution be afterward?

^^thats what my biggest concern is, the weight. i cant find the weight of it, i haven't looked that hard yet but i've googled it and nothing comes back with the weight of just the engine. in the pics, it looks like the width would "fit" but the length looks like i'd have to modify the fire wall and move the radiator forward. the intake is huge, and i agree it will not fit under the hood, but who needs a hood anyway? i'll get rid of the hood, and instead of moving the radiator forward, i'll just get rid of it..that way it'll be air cooled, and save weight. if you can't tell, i'm not serious about that, i'm not retarded lol. i think i might try this, my buddy hasn't got back yet about the truck that has a v10 sitting in it but if i cant get my hands on it then maybe i'll search around and wait for one to come up for cheap.
 
Honestly, you are taking on a project that is a complete science project in my book. I'd recommend that you go with the new version of S/C Big Bore Stroker Motors that are coming out of Alternative Automotive, as they fit and are producing 800+ RWHP. The V10 is way too long to fit, nevermind it is not a performance piece.
 
if i take it on, its purely because its different. obviously the sc motors, and stroker motors have already been done, but i have yet to see a v10. like i said, this is just something i'm considering. the car i picked up i was going to buy either way just so i have extra parts when i need them but after seeing it, it's in good enough condition to just drop a drivetrain into. if i don't go through with the v10 then i'll probly just put a 4.6 with a 5 speed in it.
