this is what you look like in a Mark VIII:

So this is the car that has called for so much hype? Seriously? Is it possible to look cool in this car?

No arguments there. The LS is a better choice if you actually give a damn about what people think of your car, or how "cool" you think you look. Its BMW/Infiniti-derived styling certainly has a wider appeal.

I bought my Mark because *I* like the car, and *I* like how it looks. I like having a unique car. If someone else likes it too, great! If not, why should I care?

I think its a better choice because its safer, 4 door, better mileage, looks nice, great options.

Sounds like a great answer to me. Atleast you didnt shove the engine and performance crap in there like most.

Safer? The MarkVIII does fine in a accident. My first MarkVIII was totalled by a semi. He lane changed into my driver door, turning me in front of him, pushed me down the highway a while, they typically don't hit their brakes, my car then scrapped down his drivers side sandwiched between the retaining wall and his tires. The trailer tires drove over the front corner of my car. I walked away with air bag rash on my fore left fore arm, thats it. I feel safe in my Mark.

The MarkVIII gets alot better gas mileage then the LS.

The rest is just opinions, and we all have em.

Shame on any of you for claiming that car is better than an LS. Also, how can any of ya'll let some idiot who registers and posts some crap get too you. I'll be honest, i really dont give a damn about anyone here personally. I'm not here to become friends and get to know someone. I'll share info and experiences but thats about it. I worry about how some people get too involved with this kinda of internet stuff. Thats my opinion on this entire thread.

I think it is wonderful you don't mind driving a car that looks like a Mitsubishi Galant or a Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. Cookie cutter cars are great if that is what you are into. And to be a poser thinking that my LS is just like a BMW or Mercedes just because the car was an almost direct copy of those brands, again, more power to you. If I wanted to buy an LS, sure, I might get one for my wife. I think she would look good in it. Hey, what can I say. I guess that is my opinion and I'm not looking to make friends with you.

To all the other LS owners out there, this was just a joke. Just wanted him to see how he sounds.

believe it or not, i am waiting for him to sell it, has like 50 thousand on it and the guy is like a 100, like all conti and mark owners. j/k I am a car fanatic, but this guy puts me to shame. washes every saturday, waxes every 3rd saturday, wipes down once a day, and vaccums every second day.

Call it a cookie cutter, thats fine. Not offended. My wife also tends to like the LS better than her car too. I do like the pictures that you posted. The one with the hood scoop is just embaressing. But i do like the later model MK8, when you put them side by side the black one just has too "old" of a look to it, it looks 80's. But 4 door vs. 2 door is a big issue for me. If i was to step down to a 2 door then i really dont think the MK8 would be my top choice. Definetaly go f-body on that one. But i will say i like the '98 model in the right color combo's. I am not against going "unique" with an older car. I drove a '89 Buick Riveria for awhile. For its year it was loaded full of options, had a little mafia look to it, but its downfalls were no airbags and GM's 3.8 turd. If that car had a V8 it would be a cool ride. But the "old" factor eventually got to me and had to get something new.

Can hardly compare the 2. FWD....need I go on.

Step down to a 2 door...please explain that. Less doors is bad????

Mafia look???? Yeh all the big shots had one of those.

80s... your joking, the car was far ahead of its time from styling to the motor, and yes safty and fuel economy.

Real nice interior....looks like 80s lincolns

Hold on a sec....I wasnt comparing a Buick Riviera to the MK8. Make no mistake about that. I was using my old Buick as an example that i am not against unique older cars.

Yes a 2 door is a step down with a family. I own two 4 doors.

Mafia look...that was said with a bit of humor, but in person yes it does look alittle Gotti.

In the picture that was posted with a '96 MK8 next to a '98, yes the '96 looks very old, not too much different than the "style" of the '89 Buick.

As far as being ahead of its time the Riviera was controlled by a touchscreen computer, doesnt make it great though.

Mileage.... i inquired about a MK8 awhile ago over in their forum and almost all said the mileage isnt good. I read reviews that said a road test averaged 17.9, thats not better than my LS.

Safety.... Hey fine you survived a semi collision, thats great. I'll take my LS with stability control, side airbags, side curtain airbags anyday.

Interior looks like an 80's Lincoln...cool, it WAS an 80's car.

I'm pretty sure you'll find that the LS is a much safer car than the Mark VIII; that's just a consequence of the LS having to be designed to meet more stringent crash safety regulations.

Obviously you don't know how to appropriately use that 4.6L DOHC V8. :D

If I could afford it, I'd have a '98 LSC to go along with my LS! :D

One of the guys at work has a black '98 MKVIII LSC that looks like new and it has almost 160K miles on it. We park at the far end of the lot next to each other to keep the door dings to a minimum.

For most Mark VIII owners on this board it's about performance...and you do get that with the Mark VIII.

It's also about affordability which they are, and about the ability to make them Faster, which the Mark VIII has the aftermarket products to do so (oh and the space under the hood, which unfortunately the LS doesn't have).

The LS is a nice car with similar performance, depending on the Driver.

Personally I'm not an LS style guy, I love the lines of the Mark VIII, its what sold me on my first Mark VIII and why I'm still buy Mark VIIIs.

As for my family My Daughter has a 93, my wife a 95, and I a 94 Mark VIII.

I have another daughter who wants me to find her one also.

Then if anyone goes back to the beginning of this thread it wasn't about which car is better or worse, it was about how we both respect and appreciate both cars.

Oh and on my trip to CO last year my 93 with 150K+ now 200K+ averaged 28 mpgs traveling at 80-90 mph.

Ok I'll go along with most of this. A few things though.

4-doors maybe abit more functional but not better.

Mafia look... I really don't know what they drive, I just assume its got a not that.

The Gen1 compared to the Gen2 Mark as far as looks has really minor changes, at least as a owner of one. Many favor the Gen1 and Others the Gen2. Pretty much a mutual respect though.

I didn't know the Riv had a touch screen back then, ahead of its time for that one thing...ehhh. Caddy had a 4,6,8 motor that was ahead of its time, it sucked but mopars doing similar so I guess its back.

My Mark definately gets better mileage as my LS. Fact. About 2-4 city and 3-5 highway. I drive 25-32k a year.

Safety. I mearly pointed out I feel very safe in my Mark, I hope the LS would respond the same.

GMs interiors always followed FLM. Thats pretty well known.

I hope to never find out if my LS is safer than my Mark, that would mean a tangle with a 60mph 18wheeler. I agree newer should be more advanced as far as safety goes when it comes to cars of similar mass. I don't care how safe a Mini claims to be, thats just marketing to get rid of that fear people have.

Even beating on my 4.6DOHC I'd go so far as to say it will still beat the economy of the 3.9. Have noooo idea why, it shouldn't based on common logic. The Marks fuel mileage is very good for its weight and hp.

The LS runs very rich (IMHO) at around 12:1 (as opposed to the normal ~15:1 stoichiometry). One of the theories is that Ford is doing this to aid in engine cooling and to reduce emissions (the '06 LS is officially a ULEV), and it's not limited to the AJ39--others have commented on the sudden drop in Ford's milage figures as they chased emissions.

The '97-'98 MK8 had some great improvements including a waaay better front and rear end. Like i said, to me the '96 looks a little dated nowadays.

That '89 Riviera had some great options for its time: All power everything, digital dash and gauges, leather/suede seats, air ride suspension, climate control, personal settings, and yes that last picture is of the touchscreen display which controlled everything. Had a trip computer that you could input the distance and it would show your car and the arrival time based on your speed, instant mpg, avg. mpg, DTE, compass. It even had a diagnostic mode which let you read in real time all the sensors and controls as you drove. Very advanced. Car was in perfect mint condition when i got it. Like i said the only downsides were the V6 and no airbags.

I had all that on my Standard 1985 Lincoln Mark VII plus the 5.0 302 V-8. Only thing the control wasn't a touch screen.

Good thing GM had something to copy..

You say the VIII doesn't compare to the LS in terms of luxury yet at the same time you distinguish between the S-Type and the LS saying the S-Type isn't a college kid kind of car and yet the LS is? Are you saying the LS is sportier? Cheaper? I don't get it.

The LS and S-Type are very similar vehicles with very similar costs IMO.

And yea...this pic is remarkably similar to the one you posted:

vbpgimage.php

Did you get those wheels from a cracker jack box?

They're both luxurious. But I liked the LSE better because of it's sportier looks with the effects package. It makes it younger looking. Tee S-Type is really nice and drove like a dream, but it didn't match my personality.

Either way I'm done with this thread I've said my piece.
