Discussions and questions regarding the Lincoln LS - The newest Lincoln Performance car

Come on Quick get that SC ready so we can show those Mark VIII's a thing or two. We'll never have the aftermarket like they do so we need all the help we can get.
What do you guys think? LS or Mark VIII the last REAL Lincoln performance vehicle?

You're kidding, right? Like there are any other forums besides the LS forum. :p

I saw this and thought it was funny.

ohh - I'm ready........

My issues aren't with power..... it's with the emission test ;)

I'm at the stage where I have a hard time finding anyone willing to run me....

Quik I'd really like to see that LS of yours run... She's got to be smokin'

What would even be more fun is if we could get more of you LS guys at the LvC Meets....

The LS is a great car and I'd sure like to be showing more of them off at the meets... So of you have them looking very nice.. very nice....

I'd like to see some performance numbers from Quik when he's ready to go. I've owned two Mark VIII's. Both very nice cars...both relatively fast for what you have....both faster and quicker than my LS. But there's more to a performance car than running fast. You have to handle too. And with that in the equation, the LS stands tall. They will flat embarrass a Mark in the twisties. Not even close. So pick your battles wisely and you can be smiling at the end as you wait for the Mark to show up!!

I've got 3 Mark VIIIs 2 with air ride conversions, one standard the other 1.5" lower kit. The lowered kit really changes the handling of the Mark VIII. I live where you have plenty of twisties... My 94 with the 1.5 lowered kit loves to play with the twisties. All she needs is a new set of tires.

The Standard stet up is a lot stiffer than the old air bags also a much different ride than with the air ride.

Taking off the air ride greatly changes the handling.

Bottom line, both are V8, rear wheel drive, DOHC 32V Lincolns. It just does not get any better than that. :)

Both are performance car, but admit it guys, The LS got shafted with a small 3.9L motor. The Mark VIII has a slightly detuned Cobra motor with a TON more aftermarket.

I would love the Mark VIII if it was still made, but its hard to find a pre 2000 car in nice shape in Chicago 6 years later. The cars arent really in the same class with 2-door vs. 4-door.

On this board, the Mark VIII section has about 4700 threads and about 51,000 posts. The LS section has 6700 threads and almost 72,000 posts.

On this basis, the LS is clearly the better. :D (j/k)

Actually, I think the Mark VIII is a really neat ride. If they were made today, I would definitely consider one.

Can't agree with you guys enough...

Both are great cars.. But it’s fun just to have some friendly competition…. Each car has its area where it excels. The biggest Downfall of the LS is no aftermarket parts… At least we have the Mustang to help us out. Granted no aftermarket company is really making performance parts for the Mark VIII they are all for the Mustang we just get lucky to be able to use them. Look at Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords do you see any part list for Mark VIIIs LOL..

We've been having a lot of fun at our meets. Only problem is it's the Mark VIII guys who attend with one Conti and a Town Car. I would be great to see the LS guys there. I'm building anther July meet this year, which will be a blast... Put away some money and come to the meet. Just follow the Beach Party Thread in the Anything Goes section.

Last year we had about 20 members for the first run of the Beach Party meet, with members coming from as far east as NJ to as far west as AZ. This year we have members coming this year from as faraway as England. So if you would like to be part of the fun show off your LS, and really learn what make LvC one of the greatest places on the net. I know it’s a long way off but it will give you time to put away some money for the July Beach Party. For those who don’t know its a weekend long party in Bluffs of Southwest Wisconsin. We have BBQs, Car Cruises, Live Music, and total LvC fun. Like I said follow the Boscobel Beach Party Thread for updates.

There is a picture thread in the Midwest Forum. Feel Free to check it out…

And don't forget the Christmas party the on Dec. 9th

The first statement is debatable; the 3.9L is a very smooth powerplant, and does a very good job of delivering. It may not have the aftermarket of the 4.6L, but it produces every bit as much power as the Mark VIII did from the factory (at least in the 2nd gen LS).

And your history is a bit reversed--the Mark didn't get a "detuned Cobra motor," the Cobra got the Mark VIII's DOHC 4.6L V8. Remember, the very first production car ever to carry what is now Ford's corporate standard V8 was the Mark VIII.

Actually the MarkVIII was the first to get the 32V version of the modular motor. Town cars got the 2V in 91 and Crown Vics and Grand Marquis got it in 92.

I've seen some very nice looking/sounding modded VIII's...tint...suspension...grill...exhaust...SC...very fast...much faster than an LS with a 3.9L could ever be...

LS looks better stock vs. stock IMO and stock vs. stock handles better. Even with equal or even unequal suspension mods I think the LS would win...IMO...

what is the weight dist. with the late 90s model VIIIs?? I'd imagine nothing like the LS of today.

Living in St. Paul Stinkin' you should be able to bring that LS down for the July meet so we can have some LS Representation.. I'd sure hate to think you LS guys are embarassed to show off your LSs... (said in a sly sinister way as to entices some LS interest in attending meets). It's a heavy weight to be carried by the Mark VIII members (although is a weight we can handle are proud to bear).

Another sad truth is both cars have been abandoned by Ford/Lincoln. :(

So .... it's up to us loyal fanatics to keep the spirit alive!

Here Here, I second that. Hey Smokey, You're not that far from Houston, I wonder how many LS and Mark owners are in our area.

Probably several, but how many are enthusiasts is the question. I grew up in Houston and in fact, I'll be down there on the 21st to attend my 35th high school reunion.
