Been having transmission problems with my car since I bought it. Only paid $1,000 for it, and knew it needed work so no big deal. My problem is when I'm driving it makes this loud "grinding" noise (best way I can describe it is brrrrr sound) when I hit around the 30-35mph range and shakes/vibrates the whole car. I've been told to change spark plugs and get a tune up, which I did, but I'm still having the same problem, less often, but still the same problem. I've also been told should flush the transmission by a couple people, and that my transmission is going out by others. I don't know sh*t about cars, so any suggestions?

Does it kinda feel/sound like you're going over railroad tracks? Flush the transmission fluid with Mercon V and I bet that will take care of it. 35 mph is right around where the Mark will shift to OD if you are light on the gas which is where the rumbling is probably coming from.

That was my thought.

trying to help please dont burn me yo hard

my mk viii has a one peice dshaft but if yours it a 2 peice it should have a center support bearing kinda sounds like its shot. thats exactly what a bmw will do when the csb goes. if i am wrong please a swift kick in me the nads. i have never seen the 2pc dshaft on a mark so not shure just trying to help

sounds like the infamous Torque Converter Shudder.
quite common in cars that aren't or haven't been running Mercron V.

If your karma is good, and the stars align.. a simple fluid change will fix it.

WHAT T FUK are you babbling about?

There is no "carrier bearing" in the mark 8 two peice driveshaft.

Try to stick to accurate information please.

I too say the torque converter has seen it's days. Look for a 98+ and swap it out. All your troubles will be gone. A fluid change is not going to fix your problem. A full flush with Mercon V is a bit costly and it's not going to fix a :q:q:q:qed up TC. Mine made that same sound for a while and had shudder but after the swap over to the 98, all was good. I'm about to take that same transmission and move it over to the 95 now that the 94 is gone.

98+ with a J-Mod and new front and rear seals works wonders. You'll think you have a new car again.

My '93 that I bought last week is doing the same thing. I dumped a bottle of Seafoam Trans Tune in about 170 miles ago, with no change. Hopefully next weekend I'll be able to change the filter and fluid. I also believe that it is a converter shutter, and not another problem. Does anyone run synthetic fluid in there Marks? Does it hurt, help, or make no difference in these cars?

Mercon V is synthetic and if shudder has started, just start looking for a cheap 98+ trans and get ready to swap it if you plan on keeping it. It starts with shudder and then one day, it's just not going to move anywhere.

Mercon V is what your transmission calls for.

I have a '96 that I can/will rob parts off of. What's special with the '98+ tranny?
