So my friend and I did a transmission fluid change on his Kia Sephia today, and it went pretty smoothly by looking at some videos on youtube. We took off the pan, changed the filter and put in new trans. fluid. Then we took off the hose that goes to the radiator from the transmission. Started the car, took out 1 old quart and then put in 1 new quart. Rinse and repeat till we saw new fluid from the hose.

Well that was easy because there were tons of videos on youtube. I read the tech article posted here and it seemed HARD(a month ago). After we did his car, I read it again now and it seems doable but I have some questions.

1. Where is the crankshaft pulley?? (pictures would be better:) )

2. I have a torque wrench, how tight does the bolt for the torque converter has to be? Also for the pan bolts too?

3. The filter in the tech article says he got a FRAM filter, but aren't they not good? Which filter would you guys use?

4. My brother has a 93 Mark VIII and I don't think he has the new style pan, where should I get that from?

I will probably make a video and post it on youtube because TBH, the tech article is good for people who actually can work on cars. Everything that I know is by reading the posts here and I am only doing this on the Mark because I just did my friends.....lol.

1. u cant move the crank pulley on a Gen 2 the air valve is in the way.......just get under there pull the little round rubber cover off of the transmission, and have somebody crank the engine till you see the drain plug...........

2. on the torque converter i just did handtight, i didnt find a spec, pan is 18-22lbs...............

3. dealer.......

4. dealer probably unless somebody has one lying around...........

Above is good info.

If you don't have any one to turn the enige over you can use a pry bar or screw driver to spin the flywheel by the gears. It takes some work to get all four bolts but works.
As for the filter doesn't matter what band. Trans filters are very basic. Clean the magnet in the pan.

Using a 1/2" pull bar with an 18mm socket is what I used to put on the crank and turn it with ease until you or someone else can see the TC drain bolt. The crank is the very bottom pulley. The belt can be left on and still be able to turn the engine little by little.
