In may of 2004, a friend of mine did the JMOD to my 97. He has done many many of these in the past and mine is the only one he has had problems with afterwards. Yes its been 5 years, 57,000 miles, and the tranny is still "OK".

So what happens is the tranny acts fine when its cold, but when its warm its a diferent story.

When warm:

1. Put it in gear and you can feal it go into gear. Take foot off break and it will go forward a little bit, but not like it should.

2. Give it a little gas and around 1000 rpm's you can feel the gear "catch" sorta. Its like its in gear but not fully in gear, if that makes since.

3. If you stand on the brake and raise the RPM"S to ~1000, you feel the same thing, like its fully in gear now. It doesnt really clunk or jerk, but you can feel it thud.

4. If its in reverse, and not giving it enough gas, its almost like it slips out of gear until you give it more gas.

5. At WOT it will shift into 2nd at ~5200 RPM.

Not sure if there is a better way of explaining it so ask questions if you got em. I plan on tearing into it this weekend but not really sure what to look for. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I am lost when it comes to tranny's but gonna try to finger it out anyway.

Could be a gazillion things - most likely causing lower than normal pressure. Your valve body could just need re-torqued.

Damn that sucks ass my '96 did the same thing to me and then the tranny stopped working all together and left me stranded 75 miles away from home. It would work kinda though i was running about 4000 rpms going about 20 mph all the way home. such a waste of gas.
