Tinting Headlights and Tail lights?

So just for all you who have tinted their Head Lights and or Tail Lights here.
I am looking to use like That Nightshade Rattle can or some other form of that nature.

So is there any procedure I need to follow besides just cleaning them?

Do I need to sand them down?
I was just planning on cleaning them real good, removing the emblems off the tail lights and Applying the Tint then using a clear coat over it.

And also. Would you recommend doing this to your headlights as well? Let me know what yall think.

I personally wouldnt tint the headlights myself just my opinion.

If you're gonna do the headlights, you may want to use Lamin X because you can remove it easily in case any cops want to give you a hard time.


...and then re-apply it when they leave

Awesome, Thanks for the replies and opinions. Was skeptical about the Headlights but wanted to see what the good ol' LVC Community thought.

And Im the same with the Tail Lights.. I only like a Light Tint to medium.. Not some dark stuff You see on Ricers and what not lol.

I might have the body shop That I use to work at do em for me. Have them Actually Spray it on and have a Lifetime warranty on the Tint / Paint

Well I tinted my headlights using nighshade very LIGHT, and I think it looks sweet on my car, anyone disagree?? I polished them up and then look good and clear, a lot of time and work to get them looking good though but turned out great. And for them being dangerous? You can clearly see my lights at night and in fact they are still so bright I get comments on them, I even still have people flash there lights at me as If if have my brights on and I don't, I did make my fogs darker and you can tell the output on them went down but I love the look of tinted headlights, deff a plus on a black car.

Thanks guys, yeah i was a little scared when I started to spay it on my headlights and in my head I was going, ohhh sh88t what did I do now! It was really cloudy after I did the clear coat until I buffed the crap out of it with some Meguiars Ultimate Compound I had laying around, and man did that stuff do magic! I think it would look good on a white car but maybe actually seeing it would change my mind, idk. I got the mesh off ebay.

I was thinking about tinting my headlights and fogs as well. Actually someone did a crap job spray tinting my headlights and fogs before I bought it. I liked the idea but I want to go with a light tint.

I was thinking about the Lamin-x but I want to see what it looks like on a ls headlight. If I did it it would be the lightest shade they have, plus I have HIDs.

So anyone have a pic of an LS with Lamin-x??

Another thought I had was taking my headlights apart and spraying the inside of the lens.. would make it so you don't have to clear coat or worry about Mich weather owning the spray.

Yeah I tinted the tails too, look okay but I didnt put enough clear on them so it still looks like a matte finish. I didn't make them too dark, you can still see a hint of red which I like. Maybe I will just keep the matte finish, kinda looks more aggressive idk not made up my mind yet lol... I don't have any pics of them so will take one tomorrow, spraying the inside of the headlight would have been better but remember I moving to FL next month so extreme heat is going to be the problem then.

Ok, whatever you say, but the 5th best team in the SEC West destroyed michigan in their bowl game last year so keep liking sorry ace teams. You will HATE football living here in the south being a Big 10 fan because everything about football is better in the south. Better teams, better tailgating, and better food!!! I love SEC country.

Be careful not to apply too much tint as it will run, and be very delicate with sanding and sand between each coat as the coat dries. Four coats is pretty dark, will post some pics of how dark my tails are as soon as I get photo hosting set up... use the VHT spray tint if you can still find it

ive been thinking about using some smoke colored film on my headlights and fogs.. im not worried about durability, or it making the lights less bright,,.. im just worried that the appearance of the all chrome grill after.. itll be the only chrome in the front then and i think it might be overwhelming.. but i think im going to do one and see how it looks and if i dont like it since its film i can always remove it..

andrizzle.. if i do it, it will be done within the next six weeks.. i could send you some pics.. before you decide.. i have some leftover film from my tails.. and it was pretty light.. im going to do one and take a pic to see what looks better the one with it or without..
