timing chain noise

lately my timing chain has been making a little noise that is bothering me it almost sounds like typical chain slap buts its only coming from the passenger side, right under the valve cover, so im wondering if it may just be a bad secondary tensioner or does this seem like and whole new timing set is due? ill try to get a video of it so you can hear what im talking about but in the mean time was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and fix, the car hasn't really been abused occasional track use here and there but for the most part i just drive it like a typical DD

Sounds like abuse to me! But what do I know!
 
Could be tensioner on secondary chain, or chain it sefl could have streached. If your going to go through the trouble of replacing the problem chain, id just do them all, that way your not doing the same thing again for one of the other chains. If It were a job I was doing, I wouldnt do it unless you replaced all the chaines and tensioners.
 
Chain tentioners and chain guides are the common fail. The chain guide has a plastic surface that gets sawwed by the chain and then comes apart and it'll make a lot of noise when that occurs. When mine went bad I just replaced what was needed.
 
I had the same sound on my old silver 94... It was a rumbling type bearing noise at all times. I removed the P/s valve cover and checked it out. I found one of the roller followers had fallen off one of the valves and was getting tumbled around by the main chain sprocket. I could not believe it... I replaced that lash adjuster and follower and had no more noise after that.

I would jus pull the valve cover on that side and give it a look. To make it easier, just remove the motor mount through-bolt and jack up that side of the engine. It will make getting the cover out much easier. P/s bolt is accessed right above the a/c compressor, and the d/s is right by the steering shaft.

Good luck, that's what I would do first. R/r of the valve cover will cost you nothing if just for the peace of mind.

the car has only been raced 3 times over the 5 years ive owned it

thats what ill do then just to see what exactly is going on and i suppose ill just get a whole timing set just for piece of mind in the later years
