Thoughts on AGM batteries

Well every other year I have to replace the battery there's a small parasitic draw somewhere small enough I can let the car sit for 6 months and it'll fire up. But they only last 2 years so I'm thinking about trying an AGM, but I hear they can damage some cars electronics and seeing as there's a billion finicky computers I figured I'd ask before I potentially ruin the car.

Got agm in my 1998 xj8 I don't think it's worth the money but it's what the car called for

I haven't found any increased longevity with any AGM battery other than the Odyssey brand. That being said, a battery tender is highly recommended for any non-daily use for battery life, even with AGM batteries.

I have 68 Montego, 63 Fairlane, 97 Lincoln Mark VIII. Started with Montego around 2005 I put in an Optima battery. Though it was replaced once by warranty, I got so many years (more than 7) service, that I have since installed them in other 2 cars. Been maybe three yrs with no issues.

I agree about statement "battery tender is highly recommended for any non-daily use for battery life, even with AGM batteries."
Is more important for a car with computers, but applies to all batteries.
I have experienced the slow drain before Optima. Mark VIII has been in shop last 17 mos. So no good data there.
Probably should not mention this. Somewhat a part of my personality. AGM batteries are a few tenths lower output voltage than "wet" batteries. This can lead to tailspin when trying to trouble shoot. If battery is tested with a load panel this factor is irrelavant.

I saw a video on YouTube of solar panel battery tenders so I might have to pull the trigger and pick one up, I'd be pissed if someone stole it but they're fairly cheap and the ones that aren't glass panels were really durable.

I'm not aware of current technology on solar tenders. When they first came out , you could put them on your dash and plug into cigarette lighter socket
