This Thread for Pioneer AVIC-D3 Installs.

quick question. My local Lincoln Parts guy (who usually is exceptional with parts issues) couldnt locate just the bezel part listed here. Is there a part number that I can provide him so I can pick one up?

I did a search on the forum, and found out that teamfordparts.com carries the bezel. Ordered it last week. That's the only part I am awaiting.

Before I begin this install on Friday, anyone have any tips on location for mounting the XM Navtraffic and bluetooth modules? Will I need to remove the glovebox for the install? Any tips on connecting a wire to the red/white speed sensor wire that is attached to the PCM, and routing that wire back into the passenger compartment?

Any other tips would be appreciated.

Oh..also, is it a must that I await the bezel before beginning this install?

You can start the install w/o the bezel and drill holes in the stock mounting plates to align with the AVIC. You can also get all the other wring in first. The bezel will be the last piece to modify once everything is properly mounted.

Quick question..where did you connect the backup wire? Did you run it all the way to the backup lights in the trunk?

Couple of questions:
I've removed the stock head unit (Alpine with built in changer) and noticed that there are three separate"block" connectors on the rear of the unit. Thats in addition to the small hole where the antenna connection goes.

The Avic-D3 obviously only has one connector for it's wiring harness. And of course the Avic's harness interfaces nicely with the Ford wiring harness adapter sent by Crutchfield.

But that leaves two factory "block" adapters unused.

What wires are in those adapters?

Is the stock LS antenna amplified? There is one wire hanging loose from my crutchfield adapter, and it's labeled to go to the amplified antenna lead for the cars antenna. Assuming the in-glass antenna is powered.

Anyone?

Thanks

Tested things out..all appear to work fine. (Havent done the actual install..just ran the wiring for the Avic, Bluetooth unit, and XM Navtraffic module. Even transmitting clear video to the rear headrest monitors.

Only issue I have thus far, is no sound to the rear deck speakers, and no amp.

I have all wires connected correctly, but don't know if there is an amp turn on wire Im supposed to have connected? I also have an "amp ground" wire that is coming from my Avic connector, but no matching wire on the wiring harness adapter.

Anyone have this issue?

My front and rear doors have sound coming from those just fine. But NO sound at all from the rear deck speakers.

the rear deck speakers are one of the other connectors you are talking about, those all need to be hooked up as well. There is an amp turn on and two pairs of speaker wires in the other harness for the head unit.

Yep. Finally found that out. Appears Crutchfield shorted me on one of the connectors, and that's the one. Just called them. They will send one out Monday overnight for free, or will reimburse me the cost of one that I find locally. Not bad customer service.

Actually..just found the wiring harness. I placed it on a shelf when I first opened the box, and forgot it was there. Crutchfields order was perfect.

Next question. I havent heard a word from TeamFordParts since I ordered the faceplate a week or so ago. Emailed them and have received no response.

How long does it normally take for it to ship?

Bill ha a hard time keeping the faceplate in stock, they sell like crazy, but hipping from him is usually next day DHL.

Also..did you have the amp turn on "thump" issue?

I dont have that issue, but heard of it before. I dont remember the fix. I have 1 large Kicker 5 channel amp powering my whole sytem and watching/listening to DVD concerts in the car while driving is more than amazing!!

Just hooked up the steering control tonight. It works great!!

Hooked mine up as well, and it's working intermittently. I've programmed it 2-3 times, and initially it works fine. Then after awhile, various buttons sometimes get a response..sometimes they dont. I stuck my Pac 1 in that small area to the left of the headunit..between the upper vents and headunit, pressed to the rightside of the guage console. Does the Pac 1 have to literally be visible to the steering wheel?

no, the PAC unit isnt as responsive as the tock controls. You have to hold the steering wheel button down for about a full second for it to do anything, there is a slight delay.

Understood on that part. (slight delay). My issue is randomly..a button or two doesnt get a response from the Avic at ALL. Last night I held the volume + button down for 10 seconds, with no response. Volume - and all other buttons got a response just fine. Then 20 mins later? The Volume + button worked fine, but the track down button didnt get any response. This morning? All was working fine.

I'll double check to make sure no wires are pinched or anything for the Pac.
First priority is getting rid of this horrid amp turn on thump though.

Blutetooth feature is NICE. The outgoing and incoming sound via the BTB-200is impressive. 3 people I test called had no idea I was on a car speakerphone. And the incoming audio of callers via the LS's speakers is quite nice. Transferred my contacts from my bluetooth enabled Treo 650 to the bluetooth unit/Avic in 10 minutes today.

LOL. No, not that many actually. But my 650 doesn't appear to be able to transfer the entire contacts list all at once. So, you have to go one by one to transfer them over to the Avic module.

02V8Sport.
In "Nightmode", it appears that the screen is supposed to dim a bit when you turn on the headlights for the car. Mine does not dim/change. I am certain I have my orange/white Illum wire hooked up to the Orange/white wire from the harness. Still, no dimming.
Does yours dim?
