I was driving to work & all of a sudden I here my car beep & the message center say "ETC ENGINE FAILSAFE MODE" & the engine light comes on in which the car then loses all power. I pull over turn the car off & restart it & everything seems fine until a few minutes later it does the same exact thing. I once again restart the car & start heading to the dealership instead ow work when again it does the same thing.

This time I get my xcal from the trunk & set the car back to stock. The car drives the entire way to the dealership & doesn't give me any trouble at all until I pull into the dealership & the message center says "check tail lamps" well the service writer pushes the brakes & everything works fine turns on the lights & everything works fine so not sure on that one.

They just called me & said they drove the car 35 miles with no issues & the car is throwing no codes...

Any idea if it may be the tune or what?

It's possible that your throttle body assembly is failing, but it is more likely that you have one or more failing COPs. The RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) from the marginal coils causes electrical noise on the signals to/from the throttle body. This causes the computer to believe that the throttle body has a defect and it basically sets the throttle to idle and leaves it there. (This is so that an electrical or mechanical problem won't cause the car to run off out of control.)

Any clue why it only does it when the car is tuned? Car has no issues or codes since being set back to stock...

I would suspect that it will eventually show up without the tune. It may be unrelated, or it may be that the tune is a little harder on the ignition system, so it makes the problem show up sooner.

The #4 coil is the most likely one to cause this, but it could be any of them, and it could be more than one.

Well even though they told me yesterday they could find nothing wrong with the car yesterday & had to give it back it happened again today, but this time with my kids in the car in an intersection in which I was almost in a major wreck because of.

The car is back at Lincoln & has been an absolute NIGHTMARE for me. This will be about the 12th time it's been in & I've had it 8 months or so. I am now on my 4th rental car due to problems with my LS. Seriously what a LEMON this thing is & it's sad because when the car works I LOVE IT!

I am so damn pissed & sick of this crap on this car!!!

Sorry about your troubles. Time to trade it in?

You haven't given us much history. It may be that you really have more dealer problem than car problem. There's no such thing as a car that doesn't require maintenance and replacement of worn parts. (My own '02 has 144K+ and hasn't been to the dealer since I ran out of free oil changes at 40K.)

Bought the car about 8 months ago had around 44K on it one owner vehicle oil changes every 3k had the tranny service done a few months back. Car is in top notch condition inside & out. I've been on this forum for quite some time about numerous issues haven't posted about them all as it gets kinda stupid to be honest...

Car has been a huge headache from coils to sensors to brakes & everything in between...

Yeah who knows haven't even had it long which sucks. I know the GM who's dad owns a ton of the dealerships in town & even he thinks it's insane how many times I've had to bring the car in...

I was in your same boat when my coils failed and I got the ETC message. After the coils, it's been GREAT and I'm at 121k, 21k which are mine. Thats the biggest problem that happened to mine, hte coolant pipes cracking and leaking was annoying but it's an easy fix.

Yes that's exactly what it was smart ass!

Seriously what do you bring the the table for this thread? I'm having a bad enough time as it is & you come post some dumb ass :q:q:q:q acting like a punk! Why the F%CK would I post some stupid :q:q:q:q about the brakes if it was just a normal pad replacement? Give me a break clown!

Hey, ease up there Sport. Some degree of taking out your frustrations on this forum of LS enthusiasts seems to be the norm here, but the only possible benefit is to your feelings from the venting you do. And the venting gets old in a real hurry.

Some of us are more than willing to try to be of help, but continued hostility is of no benefit to anyone.

Please be civil.

Give me a break with that...

I didn't even ask for help on this one just venting on what a LEMON my LS is not calling anyone else LS a lemon just mine although I've never had a car & been on a forum that had so many other like car owners having issues all the time.

I'm obviously fed up with mine & when you've basically started renting a room at a dealership there's a problem. I won't even attempt to take my car anywhere close to out of town, because I can't depend on it to even get me to work let alone somewhere far...

As far as dj goes I just don't need the smart remarks at this time...

Just sayin...

I agree with Alax and that you need to replace your coils. I have had my LS for 5 years now and it has only been to the dealership for a transmission. Good luck and change your coils.

Looking around the forums i think new coils would eliminate the issue.

Dennis, I understand your frustration. My LS is on strike 2. I don't have much faith in it, and my wife and kids are in downtown Chicago with it daily. I'd bet your issue is coils on the passenger side. I know I had identical issues, and the coils were the problem.

I don't know if you've started breaking cooling plastic yet, but, I can assure you, it's bound to start in the near future. If you're paying the dealer to fix it, it's gonna run close to $1000 to change the majority of it.

I have a good manufacturing job in steel country. I have never bought a foreign car, because I realize that to maintain our first world status we need manufacturing. Frankly, we do like our LS but its reliability has thinking about getting something more reliable (read Honda, Toyota). This car breaks my heart in many ways.

Do all of the coils like mentioned before.

Even still, they will go again in like 6 months. I had the same problems with my '03 which is why I traded it in...got tired of the BS stuff giving me headaches.
