Things to make better?

Odd, it locks out the front passenger door switch and the rear door switches on both of my LS's (both gen II).

Odd, my passenger window works from the passenger side with the lock out engaged.

2004 owners manual:

"Window lock

The window lock feature allows only
the driver to operate the rear power
windows.
To lock out the rear window
controls press the right side of the
control. Press the left side to
restore the window controls."

I guess I'll have to double check that one. Mine are an 04 and an 06.

BTW, I've looked at the wiring diagrams and a global auto open/close button probably wouldn't be too hard to add. There is a global open/close signal wire.

the 2nd gens have auto up and down for the front two doors (which by the way is the best thing they change between the generations)

So what if you swap out the passenger side front with a Gen 2 switch then swap out the rear drivers side with a drivers side front switch and the rear passenger side with a passenger side front switch from a Gen 2 again?

I dont see getting the key fob to work with the other 3 tho.

I dont see getting the key fob to work with the other 3 tho.

possibly, the switches are different, there are two clicks for down and up, on the switches (the first is momentary and the second is auto)

the key fob already controlls the other three

I didn't realize gen1s didnt have auto up/down for the passenger window or the moonroof.

1st gens only have auto down for the drivers door only, not sure about the moonroof (mine didnt have one)

The gen 1 key fob or the gen 2?

Today when coming back from class, I could se my car up ahead where I park so I was holding down the unlock trying to get my windows to go down, and they didnt go until I was like 20 steps from the vehicle... I wish there was a way to increase the range, I wonder if the battery should be replaced. Although I dunno if that would affect the range at all? Anyone clarify?

Try the battery. It should work farther than 20ft.

Headlight timer!

I drive with my lights during the day since we dont have actual DRL's and I hate the fact that you cant use the timer during the day.

I know it sounds dumb, but try this:

push the remote under your bicep, and point that arm at the car. Another way is to hold it up to your chin. Have you ever used rabbit ears on a TV? You know how you move them around to get it just right, then when you let go the reception goes bad again? Your body is acting as an extension of the antenna. Same concept with putting the remote under your bicep, then pointing at the car, or holding it under your chin.

I heard this, and didn't believe it at first. But I was never able to set off the panic alarm from inside my house without doing this, but when I tried it doing what I described above, it worked.

RF can be a very funny thing. I have a good friend who is in the wireless communications business (long range wireless, not wifi or cellular). I've worked with him on a few projects and in the end I am convinced that working with RF is just as much an art as it is a science. I have seen plenty of things that should not work but somehow they do. And just as many that should work with no problems that don't. That being said I will point and laugh at anyone I see sticking their remote under their chin.

True, I can stand in my house looking out my window and the thing wont work. I'll hold it up to my chin, what ever and it dont work. Yesterday we were shopping at the mall and I gave my son the keys to play with, hes over the sticking things in his mouth stage he just likes the things cause we have a car stroller. I parked at the end of the lot and came out and my alarm was going off and the trunk was open. I saw him pressing teh button and thought nothing of it seeing we were inside a mall.

I pity you poor fools who can't unlock or start their cars for 1/4 mile away. I can sit in my office, on the opposite side of the parking lot, and start my car. The factory remote start also included this little antenna that is tucked away above the rearview mirror that lets the key fob work from just about anywhere.

I pity the poor fool that cant wait till he gets to the car to unlock it. I mean your going there anyway:D

But, I do like the added feature:shifty:

That would be pretty cool but I was referring to 01LSVTs post.

I dont think it would work. Or at least I cant figure out a way myself without swapping it from another car that has that feature like some Infinities do. Even then who's to say with the way the LS works it would even function.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I meant the switches on the door panel. I've seen this done on other cars with a resistor of some sort. Doing it in the driver's door would be priority #1. You could do the same on the front passenger door, but like was mentioned before, I wouldn't do this on the rear door switches in fear of a small child opening the window with one touch.

OK I started to figure thats what you were referring to. We have it on the drivers side and my sunroof/moon roof has it also.

This whole auto up down left side right side is getting confusing now:lol:

The gen 1 key fob or the gen 2?

it worked for both of mine

time for a viper, up to 1 mile, definitly try a new battery

Put the key fob under your chin, open your mouth and press the button. No joking..it works.

i though one of my friends was the biggest f#%@ing idiot when he told me this, until i actually seen it, then i felt like the biggest idiot for not beliving him, however he LOOKS like the biggest idiot always holding his remote to his chin everywhere he goes:D

I pity the poor fool that cant wait till he gets to the car to unlock it. I mean your going there anyway:D

But, I do like the added feature:shifty:

it has actually been quite useful a couple of times when i have left the windows down and it has started to rain, all of my friends run out to there cars to roll there windows up and i just reach over to my keys on the table:cool:

I was just kidding around. But that is different from just unlocking the car. I wish I had auto up myself.

ok so let me clarify things.

GEN 1

Auto door switch on the drivers window and auto open moon roof.
FOB opens all windows stock
key lock opens and closes all windows

GEN 2
Auto door switch for front windows (up and down) and auto moonroof
FOB still opens all windows
key lock opens and closes all windows

want light timers during the day? cover the dome of the sensor on the dash. If it doesnt see light, it'll keep the lights on. Want a more perm fix that pretty easy, then paint it.

this is a minor thing

But if I hold My unlock button, all my iwndows and sun roof open. I wish If i held my Lock button they would all close.

Also, however they made the doors, Every time I am on bumpy road, sounds like something is knocking inside the front doors, Besides that noise, my car would be Completely silent.

My car is STILL at FLM getting its last bumper to bumper warranty work done. The even changed my Belt, It squeaked forlike 5 minutes on a cold start... They are really treating me well there.
