Thermostat??

Last night I turned on the heat and my 2000 LS only blew cold air. Today my temp needle went to the top and I got the reduced power and CEL. Code is P1299. I pulled over and let it cool and when restarted, temp was normal the rest of the way home. By the way, I have heat now.

Do you all think that maybe the thermostat was stuck open last night and then stuck closed today?

I'm not sure if you have already gotten you car fixed but I just had the same problem, it was my transmission line which filters transmission fuel to the cooling system, the car has two transmission lines, one for the coolant system and one for the transmission. The line had a leak and i was losing transmission fuel and he caused the car to run hot, if you look under the hood when the car is running hot and you check the transmission fuel which is on the left side under the hood and if it's low or empty then that's you problem! The line are about $75 dollar each and it's best to replace both at the same time! I hope this helps.

I have a 2000 and sometimes it just spikes all of a sudden. I put it in park, rev it up a couple times and it goes back down.

How much can I expect to have a new thermostat put in to fix the problem of it sticking? Thanks ahead of time! :D

what in the world are you talking about? transmission fuel??? assuming you meant fluid you can't check that from under the hood.
 
Actually, after 2 months of intermittently having this problem I believe it is finally resolved.

First they replaced the thermostat and the filler tube cap. Worked okay but was intermittently burping antifreeze on the ground. Then, boom, it started overheating again with hot air blowing from one side of the air conditioner. They replaced the DCCV valve and something else. Air worked great but still getting fluid on the ground.

They did another test and found a crack in the overflow tank. Now seems to be running like a charm. Just got it back for this on Tuesday this week.

I'm having the same symptoms as the OP with my '03 LS V8. Turn on the heat, and even when the engine is in the 'normal' range, cold air comes from the vents. The engine cooling fan also kicks in once the temp gets about the mid-way point on the gauge.

Thermostat as well? What's something like this usually cost to get replaced?

you mean the one that drains into the blinker fluid? or the other line that runs from the muffler fuel to the heater filter?
 
I'm not sure, but since I'm partially fluent in customerese, I think this person is saying that the cooling fan lines were leaking and the cooling fan pump was trying to run dry.

That would explain the overheating.

Of course I could me wrong, I only know a couple of the local dialects!!
