Just got my Thermostat done 2nd time in 10mnths in my 2000 V8.

Found out that aftermarket thermos suck and don't do well in the LS, so if possible get the OEM Thermo and all 3 Gaskets: 1 behind thermo 2 in the housing.

Total cost for parts $ 21.00

Was having all the issues discussed recently...

sounds like plane taking off
low heat output
periodically overheating, than it's fine

Is there a write up on how to change the tstat? I wasn't able to find it. Nor do i want to pay for 4 hours of labor. I have a 2000 V8

4 hrs labor? I believe it's like an hour.

First time I got it done, cost 81$ with parts n labor.

Hear the thermo change is easy,, but you also need to clear air out system etc..

Thanks, Quik. I did see the tech article, but i did a piss poor search for how to change the tstat. Now, a question for you. My car overheats about once a week. Normally it happens when the engine is heating up for the first time in the morning. When the temp guage spikes, i pull over, pop the hood, and wait. I can hear when the coolant starts rushing through the hoses. Then i start the car again, and the temp is back to halfway on the guage. The only thing i can think of is the thermostat. But i am a novice when it comes to engines. Is there anything else this could be?

Its some of what mine did, and it was the thermo both times.

Pretty much if you not seeing leaking, your Water Pump is probably not the issue,, and if your hearing your fans rev up, than thats probably not it either.

Go with thermo fix,, it's cheap job and worth it,, just stay with OEM.

Dont be so sure it's the thermostat. Give it a good bleeding first. Then test for a day or two. If it still overheats, then thermostat, then bleed again.

Im thinking some have reported the thermostats were faulty because they bled the system after installing the thermostat. The fix that made the difference was actually the bleeding vs the replacement of the thermostat.

Again..just a theory. But worth a shot.

True,, but since a thermo is like 11$ lol might as well replace it as well as bleed system.
