so i'm driving her to her house today and i see a beautiful pearl white gen II LSC at the hardware store parking lot and i said ohhhh a Mark VIII pull in the drive way and check it out. she gives me this look like i'm nuts and tells me i'm obsessed with Lincolns. i tried telling her that i was just admiring another mans car, she didn't buy it LOL :D

Mine knows Im already nuts. In fact today I saw a Mark V and went to take a look at it and she asked why I was looking at it, its not the same care as yours. I said in reply I owned one along time ago and you just got to look at the good looking Mark. She rolled her eyes and just shook her head.

Yeah, this excerpt from the Wiki page made me laugh:

The Mark V was tested by Germany's car magazine "Auto, Motor und Sport" in 1977 and to this day (2005) holds the record as the least fuel efficient car ever tested by them, averaging no more than 7 mpg and giving only an (extrapolated) 3.5 mpg under full acceleration.

I dunno. I tried finding the article, then gave up.

At a guess, I'd say 110-120 mph?

Remember - heavy car, low tech BB engine, auto box, and most importantly: aerodynamics of a brick!

Yep I can confirm 7 mpg. Thank God when I owned it gas was just around a buck a gallon!

Heavy... Thats an understatement. I think mine checked in around 6500 lbs

Various articles say it's weight is in the 4500 range and it was apparently lighter than the IV by around 500 lbs. Can't confirm any stats though, as I haven't found a decent Mark V spec sheet.

How long are they? 230'' or so? I think it was the biggest in the Mark series.

Edit: Speaking of the Mark series, I watched The Car, last night. I kept thinking to myself: ''that looks like a Lincoln'' Turns out, it's a customized Mark III.

Ok, enough boring info. :D

I think the 6500 was the gvw. And if I remember mine was like some 26' long. I read somewhere when I had it that it was the biggest car made in 1977

It's hard to recognize, but the big, giant heavy cars of the past actually weigh less than modern cars.

My wife learned and enjoys the luxury and performance of the mark..... and instead of playin punch buggy....... we play "PUNCH MARK VIII NO PUNCH BACKS!!"

Mark V's were 230.3" (19' 2.3") long. Less than an inch shorter than my 75 Deville... but a full 40 cubic inches short :D

unless it had the 400 modified....then it was 100 cubes short....mark V...eh, i like the mark IV or the mark III alot better
