The chrome on my otherwise flawless grill has started to peel, what are my options?

I really don't wanna pay for a NOS part. The physical condition is flawless, but the chrome is starting to crack and peel off :( I don't really want to paint it body color, I kinda like it chrome.

EBAY item#160210598305...$320.00 NEW

The chrome Grill is the focal point of your mark ... I'd go new

$320! That hurts. I could probably make some money back selling the old one even with the peeling chrome.

Surely there is a cheaper option! It wouldn't match my pitted chrome eyebrows, either

I would consider buying your old one... I have 3 fins that cracked this winter, and am looking for a chrome one, even if it isnt perfect.

paint it black, thats what i did on my 93, it actually looks better then chrome i think !!

I second the idea of black. My purple and primer 93 is getting painted as we speak, and I've decided to paint all trim and the grille black except for the chrome around the windows, we'll see next Thursday how it looks

When the chrome started to lift off my grille, I drove it to the high pressure car wash and blasted the remaining chrome from the grille.

Worked well.. looks black and looks far better than cracking and peeling fake chrome.

I'd rather get it rechromed, the process is called "vacuum metalizing" can anyone recommend a place to go?

Is it wrong of me to judge a business based on their website design? I'd rather go with someone else, especially somewhere closer to me (NY)

This is a red car thread not a black car thread. If I had a black gen 1 I would most likely paint the chrome. I wouldn't attempt it on my red gen 1 unless I saw what it looked like first and as far as I know, I'd be the first to try it.

Replating the grill costs almost $400, thats the cost of a brand new one on eBay!

What am I gonna do...

ive seen ones on ebay in really great condition go for as low as 50.00...

be patient and you may find one..

Leave it alone. You live in Brooklyn. Someone is sure to back into it sooner or later.

Thats funny mine never got hit in Brooklyn even though I had it there for a few years. Been hit three times on Long Island though :\.

The grille on my mark is starting to peel also. I like the idea of painting the grille black but my car is white. How do you guys think that would look?

Why you gotta jinx me like that. This summer is my 4th anniversary with the car and she is spotless. I park in a garage at work and my driveway at home.
