well tonight a buddy of mine and myself tore into the caddy. we're after the engine oil cooler which is down in a valley on top of the block, between the heads and under the intake. we got down to the plate that holds the oil cooler in the valley, but of course i dont own a 30 mm socket so at 4 am we called it quits till harbor freight opens tomorrow. over all we had everything off way faster than i thought, it wasnt bad at all getting everything off. tomorrow i'll have the old cooler out which we can already see is the whole cause of the oil in the coolant, i'll order the parts tomorrow and next weekend my 400 dollar beast should be up, running and on the road. i'll take some pics tomorrow of what this job looks like. feels so weird for me to be performing such a task on a car i know absolutely nothing about! kind of nice in a way that its not another mark VIII for once!!!

PART 2:

well, here are some photo's of the task at hand and the whole reason why the coolant is all mud. this is the stupid little cooler that caused the whole mess. for those who dont know the cooler has 2 hard lines bolted to it with banjo bolts and goes down into the left side of the block. as oil runs through this cooler, it sits in a coolant valley and has coolant washing around it while its running. its purpose is to heat the oil up faster in cold weather, and cool the oil down in hot weather, either way you look at it, its a disaster waiting to happen, and for this catera, and many others out there, its a disater that has happend! we spent over an hour and pushed about 10 gallon of water and purple power mixed through the hoses, the cooler valley, and the head and block water jackets, now its all cleaned out and ready for the new parts. i'll order them tomorrow and by next weekend it should be good as new! check out the shop vac!!!

Just a suggestion. If that gunk come out of the motor I would be looking at least one of the bearings just to be safe.Pulling one of the main caps will tell you a lot.

Antifreeze can play hell with the bearing.

i'm almost getting tired of repeating myself. that sludge is out of the water jackets and radiator, it is NOT FROM THE INSIDE OF THE MOTOR. the oil in the oil pan is as clean as the oil in a new quart jug. the oil that runs from the engine goes through the oil cooler, the oil cooler sits inside a valley that is filled with antifreeze, oil leaked out of the cooler into the antifreeze which made its way through all the water jackets and the radiator, this stuff is not in the actual engine oil, just the coolant. the inside of the engine block is clean as a whistle and there is no antifreeze mixed in the oil.

yuk...looks like not too bad of a job eveything looks ez to get at.
OBTW it looks like you lost your pen in the muck. :)

Sorry I said anything . snap-snap

Didn't mean to piss him off. I hope your Chevrolet runs fine for you.;)

Sorry I meant Little Caddy.

you didnt piss me off, i'm just suprised no one can read my writing, i have said a dozen times already what you see in my shop vac is not from the motor, its not a head gasket, everyone keeps telling me to watch out for bearings and what not, but the inside of the motor is perfectly fine, there is no coolant inside the block, i have written this a dozen times already!!!!!! OIL leaked into the COOLANT, huge difference from COOLANT getting into the OIL!!!

I just went back and read your post and no where did you say anything about the oil.Yes you did say you flushed every thing out .You should be glad that we are taking the time and following your progress.Which I will no longer be doing.
I guess I'm different a simple Thank You for the suggestion. Catch You latter. Danny

And that's all I'm gonna say on the subject.

dude everything you reply to on all these boards turns into a hate thread, why dont you just not post at all. between here and lincolnsonline you get alot of people irritated by your comments and the way you reply to people.
i'm not a kid, and far from stupid when it comes to cars, i know whats wrong with this car and if you really did keep up on my progress, you would have seen where i stated there is no coolant in the oil, but you only read the half, so you are in the wrong about me not stating it. i know you are twice my age, and been around the block with cars, but that doesnt mean i dont know whats wrong with my own car. here is a statement from one of my posts that YOU would have seen if you truely were following my progress:

"my buddies boss has a 98 caterra with 79k on it that he found out had oil in the coolant, its not coolant in the oil, there is actually oil in the radiator, i'm not sure why im waiting on the caddy forum to see if someone is familiar with this. my thought is a cracked head or bad intake gasket or something. its light metallic tan with tan leather interior, its in really nice condition i can steal it for $400 bucks they just want it gone and dont want to put any money into it. my plan if fix whatever is wrong and give it to my wife. "

Glory you even posted in the same thread this is from!!! so i take it back, YOU DID SEE WHERE I STATED THIS ABOUT A MONTH AGO.

If you are about tomorrow afternoon i will pop down and check out the progress - im bored! Lol.

sure martin give me a call, i have running around to do up until about noon time or so , so anytime after that i should be free. i ordered the parts tonight for the caddy so hopefully i should have them here before the end of the week. i just need to figure out what to do with the crap in the shop vac, i may put a piece of plastic in it to keep the sludge on top and drain the water into my barrel of antifreeze then dump the sludge in the oil barrel. either way it cant stay in the shop vac lol. i also need to pick up a new brake switch for the brake pedal, the one in the car works when it wants to !! give me a ring after 12.

Jamie Why don't you get off of it NO ONE CALLED YOU STUPID OR ANYTHING ELSE.Was just trying to be helpful. sometime an extra hand is helpful.
What gives you the right to speak for everyone else. You seem to be the one with the problem. When I bought that Air ride module from you that was bad and I told you about it . You same as called me a lair and got all smart when I called your office. I ask you to send me a( nice) fender you sent me one that was bent and the clear coat was peeling and rock chips that were rusting.I didn't say anything about that . Will just not shop at your store again.
When I said I was gonna straighten out my salvage title. You same as called me a lair. Well the car has a good title and antique tags.So you see were not stupid either And sure not a know it all.
I know I said that all I had to say. Sorry for that.

Take car and good luck with you Cadillac.

first off, if you want to call me out lets get the story straight pal, you bought a module from me for your air ride , not knowing what your air ride problem was for sure, i sold you a module, you told me it was bad, i said i would send you another one free of charge, you jumped the gun and bought a coil spring conversion instead of fixing the air ride, i told you that i dont take back electrical items, but would gladly give you another one no problem, you said no because you bought springs, then asked me to trade the module for a door handle, sorry i dont trade parts, i replace the same part for a bad part, i dont just trade parts, a door handle has nothing to do with your air ride, ford doesnt trade parts, why should i? secondly, if you buy electric parts from ford, once you leave their door you own it no matter what, they dont take back electrical parts. and as far as the fender, you asked me for a used fender, you prefered the same color, i tried to find one the same color, you said it wasnt a big deal if you had to paint it you would, and dont tell me the fender was bent, i personally took the fender down from my stash of fenders and went over it, and rock chips???????????? its 15 years old, are you serious, you are the kind of person i hate selling parts to, you say send me a fender, any color if you dont have the same color as my car, and then when you get the fender, cheap and 15 years old, you bitch about a few tiny rock chips, unreal man please, in the future, dont buy from me, save me the headaches. thats the whole story, seems you left out alot.
