Just got back from test driving a one owner low mileage 06' LS. I've owned my 2000 LS for many years and it has had some issues like most first generation LS's with high mileage (mine has 160k miles, most with intake, exhaust, tune and a heavy foot). I was looking at upgrading to a gen2 to get something I'd feel would be more reliable and just an overall newer car.

Both the 2006 LS and my 2000 LS are sharp cars but stock versus stock, the 2006 certainly looks better. The 06 front bumper, center console, and A/C seats are awesome, but otherwise, I was somewhat unimpressed the gen2 update. I heard the gen2 had even higher quality materials used for the interior and was overall a more "luxury" ride but I guess I just didn't notice. The dash and door panels felt more "plastic like" and the seats didn't significantly feel any more or less comfortable.

Stock versus stock, the gen2 is definitely quicker off the line and the transmission knew more what to do than in a gen1 (I was the only person in the car so I had the pedal down quite a few times). The drive-by-wire felt slightly different but nothing to complain about. Interestingly my gen1 with intake/exhaust/tune feels like it would out-accelerate the stock gen2.

Had I not put new headlights, navigation, LSE exterior mods, and engine mods on my gen1 it would probably be a more significant upgrade. But I guess I'm just not as impressed with the gen2 LS as I thought I would be. :(

I never driven a gen I but i love my 06...as you said it looks better and overall is more reliable and thats reason enough to get it over a gen I.

But i think you went in expecting it to be a whole different car...its still and ls just a bit more modern and refined.

+1 its still a LS. I like the changes made to the 2 gen. the non squeaky center console is worth it alone :)

It's been a long time...
Way back when, I test drove a 2002 V8 and I didn't really like it.
A couple of years later, I test drove a gen II (2004), really liked it, and bought it for my wife. Two more years went by and a I bought an 06 for myself.

I think y'all are correct... I was probably expecting it to offer a lot more than my current LS offers and/or expecting it to be a different car. It's still a Lincoln LS, just newer. :)

With a decent increase in power, performance & handling as well, along with 500 or so other changes. :D

Lmao! I thought I was the only one with a noisy console.

The infamous console squeak!!!! Take off the top of the console (it just pulls up and off, no screws) and put on pieces of silicone underneath it and then reattach. The best mod ever!!!!

Love my Gen 1 but win this one craps out im definetly jumping into a 06 LS or into a Jag for sure.

Squeaky console drives me insane! What do you mean by silicone?

The only reason I even bought an LS was because it was an '06. That body update just makes the whole car for me from the outside. I like the look of a regular LS, but the fogs and the front bumper just kill me on them.

About my only complaint about my car is it didn't have the upgraded stereo. Other then that it's just been fun to drive and mod.
