Taking apart the two piece grille. ( DIY )

Is there something you can paint over the top to prevent/ reduce rock chipping like a flexible bumper clear? One bad part is you'll see the shiny chrome underneath if it happens. It looks nice though.

Pete, my point exactly! Im worried about the color matching a tri coat part specifically when I do the Gen2 I have with the shaved emblem space.

Andrizzle, I didnt sand anything. I got a small can of prime made up by a body shop for 12 bucks. Supposedly it etches into the chrome. I dont know the brand cause it was a blank can. I could find out I guess.

Lincoln jealous, I only painted the center. I used Krylon fusion flat black.

Alax7, its a hit and a miss. I suppose one way or another you can find a vin or something for the LSes ( Gen 2's ) that have them. I would assume they werent mixed in at the assembly line like that. I would imagine it was the 05's, maybe the 04's since they did it with the 06 but didnt paint the center. like I said, I have reason to believe all Gen 2's have a chrome center thats painted.

With that in mind does anyone have a 03 LSE that can check to see, it may not be a two piece.

Andrizzle, I wouldnt worry about flex on this piece. It really shouldn't see any flex.

02LincLS, they have a matte clear coat but supposedly with the primer I used I shouldn't have to worry plus Fusion is supposed to be pretty strong itself.

I also suggest using one of those guns that attach to the rattle cans. They are at most $1.99.

Sorry about the pics quality. I found my camera this morning for those pics of the finished grile and lost the damn thing again so thats from my Behold. I guess a phone with a 5.0 meg pix aint that bad.
 
Wow that does look a ton better than the LSE chrome. I think because it is the silver LS, it needs less chrome or something. It just looks alot better how you have it now.


EDIT: right as im replying, post above me is the opposite lol. Gotta love opinions :D
 
Agreed^ can someone post a pic of a black lse grill with the chrome painted black?

Chrome is tacky, disgusting, over rated, trendy garbage.

If you follow the post-and it helps if you have a open mind-you would understand why.

I thought about that but I just really would rather wait until I see what kit I get and cut it out like L.LS. I want the JT EVO kit so in order for that front lip to look right in my opinion it needs to be removed but I also have always considered the 06/LSE front anyway. Right now I can find the JT kit for the cost of the bumper alone though.

But, I still do look at it and consider doing it since I have the fusion which should hold without a serious prep job.

i must agree on your choice with the grill.i have a gen one and i painted the surround to match the car and the center black. i wanted a lse grill but looking at yours side by side i think its more of the sport look i like
