Taking Apart LS Headlights

I am helping out a member. He needed his headlights taken apart. I took it as a chance to do write up. Not sure if anyone actually has done a write up for the LS. It was very simple.

1.) Pre-heat the oven to 225.

2.) use a razor/box cutter and go around the seam of the headlghts.

3.) Put the headlights in for 10 minutes.

4.) Remove and go around the seam with the razor/box cutter again.

5.) Pull them apart.

The black surround comes right out. The orange reflector takes alittle work to get lose. I had one come right out. The other was PITA.

Before I give them back. I need to get some adhesive remover to clean everything up.

Just curious, how do you put them back together? Would I need more adhesive to put them back together or what??

I actually had to scrape adhesive off and they seal better than before..

get a good infared thermometer to check your oven and watch the time close . plastic doesn't like heat while you have them apart buy some chrome tape (metal) and reline the inside. marks have problem with the high wattage bulbs heating the plastic chrome and causing them to lift and distort the field of view or light output.jd

Good right up! I also snap off the plastic levelers on the back so they don't melt or get damaged.

Once cleared, stick them back in the oven for 5 mins, the adhesive softens up enough you can reassemble. No box cutter or dremel required in my case. The orange lens has a top & bottom tab from the back, pry up carefully and it should pop out. Not much meat in the corners of the black inserts :shifty: nothing superglue couldn't fix

This is Gen I only yes? The Gen II needs much more work I've heard

Yup only for gen 1 with the gray sealant. Gen 2 lights need to be cut open like so:

That is one HUGE picture! But it does show the clarity of the headlights and they look great!

Notice you got a foggy fog light there. If you'd be interested I got a driver side fog light that I would sell you for cheap. Pm me if you are interested
