Sylvania 9005 extravision pack of 2

Advance auto parts says there 9005 light will fit my 1996 mark 8. With factory hid lights can these be the replacements for the 1996 bulb. ? If they are why are there special kits on the market requiring more effort to install when these are said to be exact fit for the 96 mark?

The '96 had halogen lamps or HIDs. The 9005 lamps will not work in the HID housings without adapters.
