Switch Lincense Plates?

Should I keep my current license plate, or put the plate from my 94 on?

No, you should probably turn those plates in and get new ones issued for the 96

Texas offers a nice penalty for not turning plates in

In IL, as long as the registration of both cars are in your name, you can transfer the plates to a different car.

The only reason I am considering this is because I need to buy a sticker for the 96, and now would be the time.
 
I like MRK ATE better, I tried that along with several other combinations on illinois' pick a plate website and everything was taken :(
