Just got a 98 Mark VIII yesterday. I build hot rods and drag cars as a hobby so I'm already thinking about what to do to this car even though it will be a daily driver. First thing that pops in my head when the hood opens is that looks a lot like a mod motor in Mustangs. Why couldn't I just slap the SVT roots blower on this Lincoln and go 12s??? I'm very familiar with Chevy small blocks and carburetors so this is a little different that what I'm used to.

Main questions are:
Has this been done before?
What is the compression on the 98 motors?
What will I have to do to the computer?
Will anything need to be fabbed up?

Thanks guys.

Yes you have the 4.6 liter DOHC with the B heads. You could buy a Non-Intercooled Kenne Bell kit for the 98 cobra and fab it up. Or you could swap over to the improved C heads and put a 03/04 cobra blower on it.

Yes do a search

What is the compression on the 98 motors?.

Not sure but i think its kinda high

What will I have to do to the computer?.

Yes im pretty sure it will need to be reflashed by a tuner.

Will anything need to be fabbed up?.

yes you will need a new hood and alot more will probaly need to be fabbed.

I tried doing a search for this and all found was a lot of rambling about how you can't build a streetable 400hp motor. That made me wonder if I should even post. That was the most ridiculous thing I've read on here.

Anyway, good call on the website. He's about 12 miles from my house and I might have to take the car over. I see they will be making some very nice cowl hoods soon for a pretty penny. I could change the cams and heads and do all that, but at that point it would be easier for me to just swap in a built motor and go even faster. Some friends have a Mark VIII that goes 7s at the local track. I'm trying not to turn mine into that, but that seems to always be where I'm headed with my plans :D This might be too much for what I want out of the car. Maybe I'll just buy some chrome 20s instead

make sure you check out his tasca supermark....only factory supercharged mark ever built. real nice guy

Just swap in some C heads and put either a SVT blower or a stock cobra blower. Either way it will be a nice setup.

Got any pics of that 7 second mark??

might wanna take a look at Geno's Tasca Supermark for some inspiration. ;)

The fast Mark VIII belongs to the Kasper Bros. It's a black Gen I. Can't find any pictures right now, but I think they're running a turbo in the quick 8 index. Never looked into it too much. I could be way off. I'll look into what heads cost and what a built mod motor costs and probably decided one way or the other.
Thanks for the help so far!

oh yeah now that you mentioned that i remember seeing that car when they used to be on the black horse pike. they had some pretty mean looking cars there

They do and I was considering bringing the Lincoln there and having them install everything, but their prices can do some major damage so now I just want to get as much as possible to do it myself and not buy or make too many extra parts.

I got one of these built, but it aint cheap.

Looks like you have the KB blower and all. There's a lot more money in that than I wanted to put in my motor, but I like it! What's it run?

That number sticks out. I think you're right. I could only a few PSI before it started knocking. I'm guessing the C heads are larger combustion chambers which would help.

After talking to a Ford Tech friend it seems the 96-98 Mustangs had the B heads. Maybe if I find a used Vortech S trim or something similar I won't need heads AND it will fit under the hood. It will probably cost more though.

You want to buy a Vortech or Paxton or ATI blower for a 99 Cobra, almost direct swap for your 98 Mark VIII because the intake manifold is in the same position as the 99 Cobra. It will fit underneath the stock hood if you take off the heat shield. Also, you will need to modify the radiator a bit and some other minor things to make it fit but otherwise it's a pretty direct swap. With a good tune, your motor can survive for a long time with 8 psi.

Ah, there you go! I looked on GoDragRacing.com and they changed up their albums so I couldn't find it. Maybe it could be better cosmetically, but it isn't a show car ;)
