So a HUGE buck decides to broadside my car with his antlers while I was going all of 35mph (watch out on 605 in new albany ohio members) friday night. amazed at how quickly my car recovered after my severe over reaction. at any rate it screwed up my paint (took it down to the sheet metal) on the top edge of the bottom panel of the rear drivers side door (right below the window). just venting. feel better now.

Hey, the deer I hit with my 94 VIII allowed me to get my 95 Mark VIII and as luck would have it. And as luck would have it got my 94 back after a year of having someone else have it.

If you look at it the way things happened I got one of the cars for free...

For anyone reading this thread who is does not live in a heavy deer populated area, Remember this the car can be replaced. There are plenty of deer around, so don't slam on the brakes or swerve to miss the deer. I'm not saying to aim for it and hit it, what I'm saying is more people have lost control of the car over reacting to the deer being afraid they were going to wreck their car, and in turn were severly hurt and some killed as they lost control of the car and left the road.

Sorry.. If you live where I live it's not if you will ever hit a deer, it's when will you hit a deer. I had a friend who moved up here from Alabama, he was the one who actually hit the deer with my 94 the day I picked it up. His wife hit a deer the next day (not with my 94 LOL).

Damn, Glad your O.K. I lost a good friend to a deer related accident a couple of years ago on Canal Rd. near Lockborne, so deer strikes are no joke around here.

HI HOTTIE! Wow, I was over on Canal last weekend! Found a few areas of the actual canal still in almost perfect condition - pretty cool.

I've always been told those whistle things you put on the front end are just to let people know how gullible you are, is that true, they really don't do anything?

Chris, thanks for lettin me know about the cardopics, I'll go check it out.

Hey Ohio Hotties we need to have a mini meet! It is starting to get a little LVC populated here in the Buckeye State!

See ya soon!

This is the time of year....................

This is the time of year when the only thing on a bucks mind is that little doe on the other side of the highway shaking her little (White) tail and bleeting, come get it big boy. And you and your car are but mere obstacles to him keeping the Rudolph bloodline going.

More people are killed each year trying to avoid than are killed by hitting them. Do not swerve to avoid a deer, or any animal for that matter. Taking a human life while trying to avoid a deer in my book is on par with driving drunk. And the most often innocent people that you kill when trying to avoid an animal did not deserve to die so that bambi and or her mother and father could live. Deer who dart in front of moving vehicles do not deserve to live anymore than people who put guns in their mouths and pull the trigger. People who swerve to avoid animals get no respect in my book. Human life is not meant to be traded for the life of a mere animal.

I think it was ok . it was walking pretty slowly and more or less just rammed my car. I was pretty pissed so I didn't stick around to check on it.

As for not swerving to avoid animals...you're right...except for deer. Hitting deer kills people (as chris pointed out above)...you've got to avoid them.

Be thankful you don't live in Ontario! This driver was lucky to get away with her life.

If I can safely avoid I do...................

I just refuse to swerve into some innocent drivers lane to avoid an animal that is too pre occupied with getting some tail that it darts out in front of me. The natural reaction of any driver is to swerve and nail the brakes. Having been a long haul truck driver for many years, I trained myself not to make rash decisions while driving. I will avoid hitting an animal if I can, but most deaths from car / deer confrontations are caused by trying to avoid. I have hit a few deer, and have survived them all. And half of the deer have actually wandered off after being hit. Avoid if you safely can, but don't endanger another person to try to save the life of an animal.

If you noticed a bunch of flowers and a memorial on the fence on the left as your heading south, that is where it happened.

I'd love to see a whole row of LVC'ers at any and all of our Ohiocustomz meets next year. That would just be awsome. I'm an admin and the only luxo in the club.:(

The rule of thumb is to hit the softest thing you can. If your choice is between hitting a deer and hitting oncoming traffic, you have to take your chances with the deer. If you can avoid the deer without endangering your life, or those of others on the road, you should try to avoid, or at least lessen, the impact. With modern ABS-equipped cars, by all means, hit the brakes hard and early: the problem with hitting deer is that they have a high center of gravity, and a not insignificant tendency to go through windshields.

As for smaller animals, I prefer avoiding them (the larger varmints are hard on bodywork and alignment), but that depends on the conditions. I'm not going to undertake emergency maneuvers and risk my life for some little piece of fur. I'll just let Darwinian mechanics sort it all out.

Bushy-tailed tree rats are on their own... ;)

The entire reason I have an LS is because my old car was totaled by a deer. My friend was driving me home one night (he was DD), and 4 deer ran out in front of us, covering the entire road. He hit the brakes and smacked into one of them. Here's the pics of that.

But that's not the accident that totaled it. Literally 2 weeks later, the same friend rode with me to the air port so he could drive my car back home since i was flying out. About ten minutes after he left, I got a call while I was boarding (i was running late). He said he just plowed a deer going 80mph. Here's the pics of that.

He was fine, car was fully insured, and I got a '01 LS. So all in all, a happy ending.

The good part was................

The good part was both times someone lived to tell about it and no innocent bystanders were harmed. I agree with Sooner, if you can avoid it, do so. But never should any other driver be put in danger for your inability to avoid an animal. I have never had a friend killed hitting an animal, but have had three die trying to avoid them. Sorry bambi, but if your daddy runs out in front of me in the pursuit of tail, you will be an orphan. So all you little bambi's out there, warn you daddy's, it's either a piece of tail, or a piece of bumper.
