A town about 30 miles from me is having some stoplight drags at their airport on the 4th. I know some of you have raced your cars before bt just wonderin if there is anything I need to prepare for the races?

Pull your spare and jack and stuff from your trunk. Make sure you have the least amount of gas as possible to run.

Not much else to do. Except maybe firm up your shifts a little on the xcal. Otherwise there are basic maintenance things that if not done, can hinder performance ie: clean your air filter up, change old spark plugs, change fuel filter, etc.

I've never tracked my car, but those are the things I would do.

get good gas, some places are a little shotty like Super America and Holiday have :q:q:q:q gas here.

Octane boost? do a burn out or two to heat up your tires for maximum grip off the line.

before the run, do what pektel said, turn off your air, turn off anything thats unnecessary for the run, lights, radio, amp, etc. turn your car off while waiting in line.

during the run, put it into SST or D4, don't rev it up to 3k and dump it, i think the magic number is around 1800 or so, but do some experimenting to see what works best for you.

from what i've read, lighting up your all seasons before the race isn't going to do much for you except empty your piggy bank.

hope this helps and hope for your sake someone more experienced than me chimes in.

oh yeah, some people lower their tire pressure, I've never done this and thus don't know the proper setting

equalize the tire pressure and with some street tires they get hard when they get hot some get sticky. test it out to see. and put the front tires at a higher then normal psi to reduce rolling drag. :D

turn off traction control - and like said above - turn off every thing else.

Octane boost? do a burn out or two to heat up your tires for maximum grip off the line.

do not waste your time with booster. higher octane does not make more power - it allows you to re-tune the car for more spark advance and more power - but the car will not do it on it's own. Fill up with 91+ and be done with it.

do not waste your time heating up street tires. they are not design for heat cycles and do not 'improve' marginally with a burnout or two. you are simply wasting tread.

the launch is the most important part of a drag race. Practice. Practice to not bog, not spin, and launch at the right rpm to make the be leap you can.

Keep your windows up, you want to have the least amount of drag as possible. Not that at the speeds you'll reach it will matter too much, but every little bit helps. Plus its safer and required at a normal drag strip. Wear your seat belt.

and don't forget to have fun :)

sweet, thanks guys!! I already fueled up the car, need to take out the spare and excess junk i dont need. Also tuned her up with the xcal tonite so I should be ready to go. I ll have to post my results if they are timing it at all!
