alright guys, ive finally picked up a new headunit for my LSC, my stock in dash cd player died on me....LONG TIME AGO.......ive never installed a single stereo in my life (and im a UTI graduate  ), so heres what ive got so far........

Headunit:
Kenwood DPX501 - its a double din unit, nothing fancy, if i wanna watch movies, i got my DVD player at home, ill ask for directions if i have too.....just want to drive with my tunes going.......anyway.....

1. the opening on the dash needs to be opened up about 1/4" (maybe less) more on top in order for the unit to slide in, how did you double din guys do it? pics would help, i dont wanna hack away all crazy........

2. wiring, i dont wanna cut up the wiring harness, yet......just trying to keep it as simple as possible for now......from Scosche's web site i got the FDK8B as the harness i need, is this all im gonna need? shows 3 harnesses, two for the wiring to the radio and a bypass for the amp, right?

3. the instruction manual (yeah, i read it, since its not running yet.... :D lol ) says i can shut off the internal amp on the headunit......could this mean i can turn off the internal amp and use the JBL amp in the back? probably wont know till i try it.......

for some reason i feel changing my timing cover on my VIII was easier than doing a stereo on it........... hehe :D

headunit up and running, found the harnesses locally, cut up the dash opening on the top part, and put it in, the fit is very snug, doesnt move at all.....pretty easy after all :D , running the stock JBL amp, crank it up and no problems with the speakers, dont crank it all the way though, its WAY louder than before :)

no, the colors on the radio dont match to the lights.....my camera phone just makes it look that way :(

Why the switch? If all you want is music, was the stock unit not workable?

Quick question for you.

With the USB input on the face, can you just plug in your pen drive with mp3s on it and play them directly of the usb ?

LOL. I think he switched because most of us like to listen to clean-crisp music. I myself have and iPod and XM - both of which would NOT work with the stock unit. So I switched to an Alpine to have XM and a direct iPod interface. No more static and no more CDs.

Besides, the stock system is a complete joke. I had the Premium JBL system and hated it from day one. My friends Saturn can produce better acoustics! And it was not just my Mark, I've driven others and they all sound muffled.

cd player went out on the stock unit, all i had was radio to listen to. yay :shifty:

havent messed around with the USB yet, but it says its supposed to detect what you plug into it and you can go thru your music using the radio. gonna have to play with that one.

oh yeah, i got a headache on the way back from work today......highs are so freaking.....HIGH, lol, freaking clean audio :D
