looking for the part that telescopes the steering wheel the up and down work? some one says I have to buy the whole collum I just think $200 is a suckers bet?? My new mark has 91,000 and I have a lifter that sounds like its goint to come throught the valve covers???it seems like its louder when I start it up aand quites down at heated temp!!

You most likely need the potentiometer. There's an ear that breaks on the piece that slides, causing one of the 2 functions to not work. You will have to remove the column and disassemble to find out for sure, although it will set a code in the scil module that does not turn the check engine light on. Also good luck finding one, as they are hard to come by and usually sell for around $100. I will look and see how many I have, and decide if i want to sell one.

Search the Mark VIII forum for potentiometer, and you can probably find a pic of what I'm talking about.

Thank you very much I just cant see in buying the whole column!!
